Can't run VLC with wine

fixme:win:SetWindowTextA setting text "VLC Media Player Portable | PortableApps.com" of other process window (nil) should not use SendMessage

err:module:LdrInitializeThunk "libvlc.dll" failed to initialize, aborting
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"Z:\\home\\Vovan\\Documents\\VLCPortable\\App\\vlc\\vlc.exe" failed, status c0000142

Unfortunately its simple

VLC doesn't run under Wine Sad
(it says it right at the bottom of the VLC page)
But Suse has VLC installed by default I think.

Not worth it anyway

I got it running under WINE in Kubuntu 7.10, but it was very unstable, didn't display the video properly, and played the video too slowly. Most Linux distros have some universal media player installed by default anyway.

any news lately?

Well, I have the same problem: SuSE 10.1. Its the last "stable" release, before Novell switched to the Fedora style craze. Unfortunately, VLC is supported starting with 10.3 ... Soo, rather than going the "factory" route, I'd give a try to wine and VLC portable. Has anybody tried this lately, with wine 1.0 or the newer development releases?
