rab040ma suggested having the exes in the data directory and letting the user choose which to open through the launcher, I like that idea very much, so will work on it.
It does work --> it is possible to encrypt a file ......
.... but how to open that encrypted file again ?
The encrypted file is a *.exe - file ..... starting that *exe by clicking is followed by an error-message ....
Locknote Portable itself has no opportunity to open a file ?!
I think you have (gasp) uncovered a bug!
Try this: go to the Locknote website and download a new copy of LockNote.exe, and place it in \PortableApps\LockNotePortable\App\locknote and see if the program doesn't work better. (Access it from the PAM menu as usual, once you have replaced the exe.)
For now, don't use the "save as" option, just enter a password and click exit. Then use PAM to open it again.
I think Patrick has a bad copy of the LockNote.exe in his distribution.
The program works by turning the document into an executable file (program). When you run the program and enter the password, you get access to the document. If you use "save as" you'll get a new executable program with a different file name, but if you click on that and enter the password, you should be able to access that document.
Methinks Patrick will need to rethink how this application works portably. For one thing, the "executable" is also the user data, which should end up being copied to the LockNotePortable\Data directory, but isn't.

Thanks, that was the case .... locknote.exe was corrupt ....
But in general:
I am not sure, if Locknote Portable - from it's concept - is useful ..... I would like to have a locknote portable which is able to make variaous encrypted (*exe) files for every time I like to encrypt some information .....
Locknote Portable is able to encrypt, but only "once" .... If I encprypt something else, the former encrypted file is gone .... !?
It sounds like what you want is cryptnote ... unfortunately it is not open source, just free. http://freezip.cjb.net/freeware/
Locknote makes a new executable each time you "save as". You need to use different filenames for each document. So if you save one document as "passwords" and another as "accounts" you will see two different executables, one named passwords.exe and another accounts.exe -- and the original locknotes.exe will be there too, wherever you left it.
Each new program is portable, but won't show on the menu (unless you save it in the right place, but that's another matter).
LocknotePortable is okay for having one document with encrypted stuff in it.

For checking that, I'll update it. You can, you just save is as a new exe in Documents or something on your drive.
Make sure you're not running Vista, Patrick mentioned that above.
XP Professional
same here....and i can't access the locknote website for some odd reason.

The SourceForge Project might be more accessible. It has an earlier version than the other link I posted.

Edit: it works now...thanks for the update.

I think compression was the problem. Please try it again all should be fine.
Anyone have a download mirror? I would like to pick up where the original developer left off for the Portable Version.
The downloadable installer is no longer available. Please fix this, try hosting it on Drop Box, SpiderOak or Ubuntu One
