Longhorn was saved or rather killed with vista. I followed LH for many builds and saw it gradually fade away into what became Vista. I wouldn't want to save a pre alpha OS if they end up ruining it again... I just hope that they didn't completely kill LH when Server 2008 is released.

well...

there are still longhorn builds out there and one thing i had thought of is that they could bring back longhorn as windows 7 or as a later operating system. i mean it would'nt be that hard, longhorn may be incomplete but they would just have to finish it off. and another thought that i had wat that since they want to get XP out of the way, they could bring in a completed longhorn to replace it.

in any case, no one seems to think that it will work but i will keep trying! and even if you dont think that it will work, could you sign it anyway because no one has and the only registered user is bensawsome from here when i put up my site on freespaces.

Sorry but no... Longhorn was completed and renamed Vista and is Windows6. XP is much more a worthy cause to back instead of a alpha build of a flawed OS...

Actually.. No

Longhorn was not completed. In September 2005 all the Longhorn code made to the moment was placed to the side.

The most famous Longhorn build was made in 2004, the build 4074. That build was even used to create Longhorn Reloaded, by an independent team from MS, before it was force ended by request from MS.

From September 2005 forward it was still codename Longhorn, but it was a hole complete code from the original.

The build 4074 from Longhorn has better compatibility and it is lighter than Vista, having better features and all.

Blue is everything.

I so can't believe that I forgot about that... Wasn't it scrapped a few times and redone from scratch? Anyways... I could see maybe saving 4074 if it has the god awful memory leaks fixed in it. But either way... I still suggest placing effort behind XP and keep it alive than try to force M$ to fix and continue 4074 development... My 2 cents worth at least...

I am more of...

I am more for the developing of ReactOS (not from MS :D). Check trough their forums. An Ex MS employee says that ROS has a great compatibility and that just ROS Explorer su... erm, needs improvement. And he also says that for each 100 lines of code in Vista, ROS uses 7.

yup...

ReactOS has super potential but they need to give it a crapload of hardware compatability - the only real way you can experence it if you dont have one of only three supported video systems is through a VMWare package - otherwise, ReactOS is awesome!

I am sure of one thing

I am sure that, after it becomes a beta (0.5) it will be much better.

yah, the roadmap says that it is supposed to be better by beta 0.5 and that may be when i dump xp because i am not paying 125 dollars to get some numbers on a pretty sticker or less for an actual copy. in fact i dont get microsoft's marketing stratagy, $125 for XP Home SP2 and $99.99 for vista home basic!

RE: swearing and stars

I don't know if it's any better, and it probably doesn't matter because John doesn't want either one.
