I saw this great app while looking through the Vista-style apps for XP (and Win2K). It is called RocketDock. It is an app that will allow you to both dock your apps there instead of the taskbar, and make shortcuts. Here is some information:

How to make portable:
- Download RocketDock here: http://files.punklabs.com/RocketDock/RocketDock-v1.3.5.exe
- Install to the system, or your flash drive (Universal Extractor will not work)
- If you installed to the system, copy the RocketDock directory to the PortableApps directory on your flash drive.
- Run rocketdock.exe
- Click the "Settings" button on RocketDock
- Under "General," choose "Save settings in a portable INI (single user)."
- Customize to your liking, and RocketDock is portable!

I am not an NSIS programmer, and in order to do that it would require a launcher. I'm just telling users about the app, and if someone wants to, they can make a launcher.

Does it handle relative paths?
But from what I see, no. What you could do, which is what I do, is have SmithTech's Portable Startup Utility run the -all argument to create a portable variable.

i use rocket dock all the time and yes it does support relative paths
right click on any icon and in icon settings where it says
TARGET::->type in the relative path from the rocket dock executable
for eg for clam win i used
..\ClamWinPortable\ClamWinPortable.exe
breakup::
the first ".." brings the location to the portable apps main directory
and then the ClamWinPortable\ClamWinPortable.exe runs the application
my directory structure is as below
root
-autorun.Inf
-StartPortableApps.exe
-Documents
-PortableApps
--RocketDock
---RocketDock.exe
--ClamWinPortable
---ClamWinPortable.exe

I have some questions though:
1. I love it too much that I wanted to have it autostarted whenever I mount my disk. how can I do this? I think using SmithRep PAM clone could do this but Im still waiting for the Officials...
2. I have a Mobile HardDrive which I divided into two partiotions... The first one is for PAM and the next is the rest of my files... wherein my documents and other folders reside... how can i make a shortcut to it that is still relative... meaning i can jump from one pc to another without worrying relative paths...?

actually to autostart it you could either use the PAM mod r30 which allows you to start specific apps alongwith the menu.
for the second partition
for your second question the only way i find out is using smithtech's drive variable application.

altogeather theres one application on smithtech's site which allows you to get a fixed drive letter so wherever you go you get a constant drive letter so::
say you use
then in rocket dock straigtaway use x:\.
right click the link on the dock, click icon settings..., and change the drive letter (x:\) to ..\

You can use SmithTech's Portable Startup Utility to autorun both PAM and RocketDock, or just use the Mod to autorun. I would also recommend that you have your drive autorun using the method used on this thread: https://portableapps.com/node/9241.

Im not that sure though but as i tested this dock last night at home with my vista pc, relative paths doesnt work...
only in XP (here in my office)...
hope somebody else could post and confirm this one...
EDIT: Well i figured it out now... I did not need to place ..\ anymore for my icon settings...
Very happy now.. but the only thing missing is the drive letter... I can't seem to download the Drive Var at SmithTech's site.... maybe somethings' blocking here in our office...
will try it at home though...
EDIT2: Wasn't able to wait until I got home... Searched and Read through threads and found the procedure in using PSU... Thanks... never thought it was that simple... ^_^
Now the only problem remaining is how to change the path of my documents and others in the geek menu... can't seem to find the specific file I need to edit...
but with the latest experimental release you can edit the locale file, adding lines similar to these to the FORM_MAIN section

LOCATION_MUSIC=$TRUECRYPTDRIVE$:\work\Music
LOCATION_PICTURES=$TRUECRYPTDRIVE$:\work\Pictures

Right click on icon => icon settings => on the "target" line, change the path to a relative path from the exe. Another option is to put the icon inside RocketDock's "icons" directory.

it has a relative path as well it is an icon in the folder

RocketDock, pre-modified for portability, plus launcher. Also includes a convenient app to close the dock, and another to install paf apps.

You get functionality more similar (identical, actually) to the original RocketDock. Unfortunately, the site and the app are entirely in French, so there's a bit of guesswork involved. It works, though. Just make sure RocketDock is set to keep its settings in a portable .ini file, and then add a \ to the start of each line in the .ini labeled "command".

That launcher, I have it, or rather had it. It kind of randomly dissapeared from my flashdrive the other day. Thanks to your link, I got it back. ^ _ ^ weird eh?

paramater will need to be changed to the start of the drive (ex. om mine it's in the portableapps folder so the start in is ..\..\ )

You stated the lisence is 'freeware' but actually it's Creative Commons Public License. (Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 Unported)

In essence it's a kind of open source license
None of the creative commons licenses (except public domain) are considered open source licenses. And they're not compatible with true OSI licenses. CC licenses are designed for content and should not be used for software.

Well you may change, redistribute, give away, and so on the application. Okay it's not OSI approved but I feel that's nitpicking. What 'restrictions' does this license have over OSI approved license then. It's certainly not just 'freeware'.

That's the kicker. CC is for content. OSI is for code. So Opensource.org site content is under a CC license. The FSF and even Creative Commons themselves have stated that CC licenses should NOT be used for software. Also, CC licensed software code is not accepted by SourceForge, Google Code, etc. Plus, RocketDock has the 'non-commercial' requirement, which violates one of the basic rules of open source.
So, no, RocketDock can't be considered open source.
