I am new here and am sorry If by posting this request have violated any rules. I did not see any requirements for post a request.
I am looking for a portable app that will open and view the windows log files.
I understand that each and every windows machine does have a log viewer and they do work however, I have to view anround 200 300 of these daily and by using the windows menues it tales up a considerable amount of time just opening the log files.
I already have to use a USB key with a suite of apps that I have to use and it would save so much of my time if I could access the log files by clicking on an app in my USB menu that pops up.
If anyone could help I would be greatfull

I have found a couple freeware ones that work great but you have to install them
Could you provide a link to one of the freeware ones just so we can get an idea of what it is you really want/need?

To give us a head start, why not post a link to each freeware app you're familiar with, along with perhaps some commentary about the strengths and weaknesses of each, or features that you like or dislike or would like to see.
Have you looked specifically for Open Source utilities for this?
No sense in us reinventing the wheel on this one, if you've already done some work. Once we know about your experiences, it might be easier to put together something portable to add to the USB kit of many administrators.

I have only one source for open source software that I look for and that is at snapfiles. I know there is probably better sites out there but am new to this.
I was told about this place from a friend who said to come here as they, being you, may be able to help.
I do a lot of stress testing of PCs & notebooks. and quite depend on the event logs to help my locate issues during these stress tests.
The windows event log viewer in vista kinda sucks as they went to technical with it and hard to manuver inside it.
The one in the link views the logs like in the xp windows and much easier to get the needed information

Check SourceForge.net for some open source software, that is ALL they offer there. Their search feature isn't always the most accurate, but it typically returns many results.

Using a freeware program may solve the problem of "lotsa mouse clicks", but why are you viewing these log files in the first place? There arer WAY more efficient ways of doing this. How about copying all the log files to a central place and then parsing them with some programming language to display only the important bits?
Point being these viewers are a small bandaid to the time sink of clicking on a ton of buttons and using menus when the REAL time sink is finding out out why you have to manually scan all these logs and then get a computer to do all that work for you.

You ask why I view them? These log files contain more information than most people believe. I don't want to copy the log files anywhere because I would still have to go through them. Parsing them is going way beyond what I need out of them.
I know what I have to look for in these logs and can find them faster than coping them to some other location and then having some program try to find it for me.
All I am looking for is a way to open up the log files and quickly view them from pressing 1 single button on a usb driven menu.
