Possible Open source Ceedo or U3 (ish) software??

I know PStart available here provide links and stuff, but for one, the links added on one computer will not work on another.... two PStart does not start when the flash drive is pluged in.

So it is really difficult to implement something like Ceedo or U3 interface?? I am not saying we need the programs installed via that program as we all get it from here... but a Ceedo or U3 interface launcher would really be nice???

Four things

First off, PStart supports relative paths just fine. Leave the drive letter off and it works from every drive... it's MADE to do that.

Second, you can autorun anything you'd like with relative ease. Just create an autorun.inf file with the following:

[AutoRun]
open=PStart.exe
icon=PStart.exe,0
action=Open PStart

You can modify the above to autorun anything you'd like. Some people just use Portable Firefox and autorun that. Now, this won't work on PCs with earlier than WinXP SP2 installed (since earlier Windows didn't support autorun). But any installed software will have this issue (read: Ceedo). U3 autoruns by using a seperate partition on the drive that pretends to be a CDROM, but that can cause other issues.

Third, a few different people are working on menus. My PortableApps Menu will be coming out in alpha soon. So will Steve's Liberta.

Fourth, you do realize that noone is getting paid for this, right? These are people coding in their spare time for free. So, unless you're willing to volunteer your own time and effort to code, perhaps you should use a few less questions marks and be a bit less demanding of the free time of others. (your post comes off a bit like that)

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Hey John,

Why are we having 3 sets of menus? Why don't we integrate START, your PortableApss Menu and Steve's Libertà one. I was planning to have a chat with Steve about that.

I thought Libertà was just a beefed-up Registry Rapper? You know, just a way to create a true portable registry and nothing more. That's the impression I get from what little I've read about it, anyway.

How is that pronounced, anyway? I'm thinking it's pronounced "Libber-TAH" but I don't want to embarrass myself, so I'm asking ahead of time. Smile

So what do you reckon Steve?

All together?
The next version of START 1.0 (formally 0.6) will be full featured and may even look like the U3 launchpad. It definitly will have skinning.

That still doesn't answer my question of how it's pronounced.

OK make that 4 sets of menus.

I'm also working on a skinable portable menu.
The screenshot shows a skin styled with artwork from PortableApps.com.

http://xpt.nl/screenshot-portablelauncher.png

Features
- GPL licensed code
- Skinable through HTML inside resource (easy with reshacker, unpack/repack commandline option planned)
- Full C++ written in wxWidgets-2.6.3 allowing future crossplatform versions.

Oh great

This is just stupid. Lets all get together and do it together. Theres no point in having four.

I know, I tried to contact

I know, I tried to contact Steve via his request for C++ developers on this site and by sending him an e-mail via his sourceforge e-mail account.

Thing is, I need this launchmenu anyway for another project.

Good thing about GPL is that everybody can scavenge the source of the others for usefull tidbits.

Sorry for the stupid

Sorry for the stupid questions (and the question marks) as I am not a programmer (well I know only little bit!), I can only help with testing. I do appreciate all of you making these amazing software, I am not just asking for something, but rather explore how Ceedo make what they made and if the money Ceedo are asking for is worth the effort they put in. So now I am sure you genius are able to do the same and more importantly, it is for all our good so thank you!

I think maybe I should read more before I post a question. Sorry again for all the troubles I had made!

Working together

I've contacted Steve, rene and Ryan about my current progress on the PortableApps Menu. Perhaps we should start a new thread in the development forums about our current progress, post our current versions and then start working together in the next few days. I'm planning on posting PortableApps Menu as a part of the next version of the Suite... most likely this week.

Find out why!

I was posting here coz PStart (includeing relative path) wasn't working on my drive, and all other apps don't work properly. And files are lost and used space are not reported correctly etc. Turns out my newly bought Buffalo 2GB drive's firmware is WAY TOO OLD (told by the retailer!!) hence PStart and all apps did not work properly. Now they have updated the firmware and it seems working OK!! Just to let you know!!
