What I see in the list of the portable app menu is like:
- Foo Portable
- Bar Portable
- XXXX Portable
What's the reason for adding "Portable" string after each application's name?

They're Portable versions of many regular applications, meant to be used from a thumb drive. This must be appended to some applications legally like Firefox, and helps distinguish for other users.
I understand when its conserning Installers, webpages and distributions. But if you start the PAM it might get a little overkill. But sure it shows what apps are made as portable and what apps are just copied into the PortableApps folder.
But I still think it's a bit of overkill in the PAM itself... (Even more when apps have longer names
And the worst are that have "Portable Edition" instead of just "Portable".
I believe the 'Portable Edition' nomenclature is a requirement of the Mozilla agreement allowing John to make portable versions of Mozilla apps.

Yeah I know, Mozilla seems to have a lot of silly requirements for their Open Source browser. I think there should be more attention to Open Source and TradeMark free Open Source software on the net, or maybe just Free software (that includes source).
But I guess its the result of 'big' companies jumping onto the Open Source hype and have special licenses to 'protect' their official versions. Don't get me wrong, I love FireFox, but at some point it seems Mozilla getting very anal about things. (Like not allowing to turn off auto-update, while it gives unwanted results due to an bug or feature they caused.
Maybe it's time to apply a Portable Apps skin to FireFox and release an CoolDog browser, or make a PortableAppsBrowser. Only a bore to re-compile it at every update
But we're getting off topic here. I would guess FireFox portable already differentiates the portable version from the official version quite well. I think all software developers should starting to make their software portable by default so no special modded versions are needed anymore.
I nowadays use Geek.Menu because of the extra functionality it offers and with that I can change the name in the menu.
Having "portable" or "portable edition" behind each and every link to the 'portable' executable is something that, I still feel, is overkill. I understand the reason for that however. If people would agree or not, it's just useless info in the menu link.
We make Portable Apps, PortableApps.com.
You make Apps Portable
Good point.
Now to look at TypeFaster.
Look forward to it!
If you don't like the names that show up in the menu, you could use a resource editor to change them. Of course that will void the digital signature...

there is no digital signature on the launchers...

Also, Resource Editor just corrupts the scripts. You'll have to recompile them from the source.

I have tons of protable applications on my flash drive. Firefox Protable, GIMP Protable, FileZilla Protable.
It's just those Contables we have to look out for.
... Bad joke.
