¿What is ShellEnhancer?

Quote from their website

What is ShellEnhancer?
ShellEnhancer is an application designed to enhance the default
shell of Windows and to make your life easier.
ShellEnhancer includes two types of taskswitcher (Enhanced
TaskSwitcher and Mosaic TaskSwitcher) which you can use to replace the
default Windows Alt+Tab taskswitcher. The Enhanced TaskSwitcher
          supports live previews.
ShellEnhancer allows you to make your own tasks. Tasks consist of a
number of commands which get executed one after the other. Available
commands include: insert text, send keystroke, manipulate windows, run
program, start screensaver, lock workstation and many other.
Tasks can be executed with hotkeys, mouse gestures or screen corners.
An On Screen Display (OSD) can be shown when a task is run.

With X-Window style moving and resizing you don't have to move your
mouse to a corner of a window to move or resize it.
Other features include: rolling up windows, making any window
transparent, always on top, keep focus, ... This can also be automated
with the Auto Managed Windows feature.

It's freeware

Your link for features is incorrect is should be this: http://www.nuonsoft.net/shellenhancer/features.php
Umm... I am not sure why this is in the beta testing forum. I looks cool though.
Best regards,
Steve

Hm

I am not sure why this is in the beta testing forum. Where else should it be?

In reading the Beta Forum guidelines is says that:

The Beta Testing Forum is used to provide test versions of applications that aren't yet ready for wide use. This app is a full release (albeit not a .paf), I would think that it would go under general discussion. This was only an observation, more than anything I thought that the program looked interesting, and the link for features was misdirected; so I wanted to assist in correcting that for anyone else who might be interested. No harm intended :).
Best regards,
Steve

It goes in beta testing.

It goes in beta testing. the app itself is a full release, the PORTABLE version of the app has not been tested, so its beta.

Just to clarify...

We are allowed to portabilize freeware programs yes? (I am assumimg that as long as it complies with the license, for example: ShellEnhancer is freeware, which means you can distribute it freely in accordance with the license which you can find in the file License.txt or in the help file distributed with ShellEnhancer.
If you distribute ShellEnhancer, use the original archive! Do not remove any files from the package!) I was (mistakenly) under the impression that free ware was not allowed here yet due to licensing issues. I am still new to this(P.A) and I apologize if i misunderstood. I am only trying to get the gist of what's allowed here before I try and make any contributions of my own. Again, no harm intended.
I am new to the forums.

You can portabilize anything

You can portabilize anything you wish. However, only open source apps can be fully repackaged. If it is closed source, free or non-free, you can only include the launcher and it is up to the end user to download the application himself.

Freeware is not allowed here because of the licensing issues, but that is only if the application itself is included in the package.

Edit: I can't access rapidshare from here, so I can't tell if the application is included in the package or not. If it is included, the link needs to be removed, because this violates the "GPL with modifications" that John (the creator of this site) uses for his launchers and installers.

Edit 2: after reading the main post, i see that the app is not included in the portable package, so this is perfectly fine.

your last post

Your last post should be added to the beta forum guidelines as it explains (very well) in detail what is and is not allowed. Very good information which I will take to heart. BTW to tipra.wicked: thanks for the heads up on the app and for your portable package I will make good use of it.

Thanks Steve, Hopefully John

Thanks Steve,

Hopefully John will see this soon, and update his guidelines. While they do touch on everything, they are quite vague and somewhat obscure, making them hard to follow, and to determine whether or not an idea you had would be permissible or not.

My understanding
You can portabilize anything you wish. However,
only open source apps can be fully repackaged.
If it is closed source, free or non-free, you
can only include the launcher and it is up to
the end user to download the application himself.

That is a good policy to follow to keep yourself out of trouble, but it is possible that some software allows you to repackage with a launcher and distribute it. You may need a lawyer to interpret the license agreement, and even then you may not be sure. So it may be better safe than sorry.

We are agreed that non-OSS software cannot be distributed from SourceForge.net (their policy), so that is a hard and fast rule. But if you are sure that the software's license permits you to bundle it with a launcher, you should be able to distribute it from somewhere else. For example, if you asked the owner of the software and got explicit permission, that would be pretty clear.

Whether John wants to put the PortableApps name on such software distribution is something we think will happen, but is not clear yet.

There is also the forum policy about self-promotion. Sometimes distributing bundled software crosses that line.

At any rate, you can assume that every piece of software is copyrighted, and its use is subject to an end-user license agreement (even if vacuously). But you cannot assume that you know what is in that EULA. It may be more restrictive than you expect, or more permissive. The only way to know for sure is to read it.
