firefox started by association link skips my profile

I use Portable Firefox from portableapps.com. When I start firefox by calling the portablefirefox.exe, it starts just fine calling up everything from my profile. If firefox is already running, clicking a link in an email or document will open another tab in that instance of firefox and, again, all is well.

If firefox is NOT running, clicking on a link in another document will start up firefox but none of my addons are loaded. The bookmarks are there but none of the extensions. It is as if it had skipped my profile.

I am running Vista Home Premium. I have checked the default program assignments and the associations and all seem to point properly to PortableFireFox.exe.

Any idea what causes this? Or, more importantly, how to fix it?

Expected Behavior

This is expected and standard behavior. As a portable app, you should never be configuring the bundled app as your default app for anything. This is neither recommended nor supported.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

John T, We love you to death ...

which must be a source of constant anguish. But in this world of multigigabyte installs and impossible backups, your portable versions are a godsend. Have a program partition, sync it to a bigdrive periodically, and rest easy as long as their isn't fire or flood. So, continue your brave fight to hold back the sea, but a bunch of us are just going to muddle on and occasionally blight your day with our questions.

And, who knows, maybe some bright fellow will find a workaround.

If someone can come up with an emoticon equivalent to a long-suffering drawn-out SIGHHHHHhhhhhh, we can name it the Haller and promote it across the web.
