#PortableApps @ irc.freenode.com
But then we need a newbie thread; "What is IRC and how to use it"
exactly. but then we could just have a stickie posted that would explain the irc and the rules, kinda like hoe the forum rules are.
it would be like:
"What is an IRC?"
An irc is an instant relay channel, this one has been set up for your convenience to get nearly instant support for all of your questions and issues about the PortableApps Menu and the Portable Apps that we here at PortableApps.com develop.
To use this irc, you will need an irc client like the chatzilla extention for firefox, then click below to acsess the channel and connect!
(Insert IRC Link)

I've set up instructions on connecting with 4 popular open source IRC capable clients here. I'd post some rules and stuff, but I don't want to go to far since John hasn't acknowledged it.
There are some FAQ and other pages on the Freenode.net web page:

Oh, BTW, we're not supposed to call it "pa.com" -- unless you want to buy that domain for John.
MC
there are actually a few web based clients that could be installed right on the site and would only require a link.
I am pretty sure there are a couple free/OS ones as well.
Used a few on some old sites, just for the life of me can't remember names or url's

FreeNode hosts a public version of the open source PJIRC client here. And there was IRC@WORK which is was acquired by Mibbit.
Then there's CGI:IRC, I haven't look at that. It's what IRC@WORK used.
Once you go to the following link, change your username and then hit the "Connect" button.

thanks but that is a java channel and it is extremely slow and i was talking about an IRC at freenode.
And BTW, "PA.com" is ment to be an abbreviation and not a link to some non existant site.
Zoop
"The java channel is extremely slow". No, the java applet on that web page is (sometimes) slow. The #portableapps channel is just a channel. You don't have to use that Java applet to try IRC, but it might be convenient.
Better IRC programs do exist. Just because the java applet is offered as a quick way for someone to try it doesn't mean that is the only way to try IRC. X-Chat Portable is one such program, and Pidgin Portable may be able to do it also.
The point is, there is a #portableapps channel on irc.freenode.net. Use your favorite IRC program and come join the discussion.
MC
We know it's abbreviation, but it gives users the idea that we own the site, so it's best not to use it please.
John can get Portaapps.com
Insert original signature here with Greasemonkey Script.
It's PortableApps.com, a short form would be cool, but no one calls it 'PortaApps' so there's no reason to but it and cause confusion.
thanks for clearing that up!
Zoop
is there a real PA.com? yes and it has nothing to do with PortableApps, and that is why i put PA.com and not pa.com. and what if i put it in quotes?
and don't you think that since we are on PortableApps.com, they might get the context that PA.com would be an abbreviation?
Zoop
Or they might not.
Either way, John would prefer that we don't use it.

If you really want to abbreviate "PAs" or "PortableApps" would probably be best.

As Tim said, most people will probably think that since you are abbreviating PortableApps.com as you said, people will naturally think we own or are associated with 'PA.com' as well.
