Firefox crashes due to the XUL file

Hello! I'm using firefox portable from my jumpdrive. It has been working very well so far, but now i tried to use it on my grandfather's laptop and its having some issues. If i open the add-ons, try to download files, or a few other features, i get an error message at the bottom of the screen that says that the XUL.mfl file is corrupted and i should run the chkdisk utility, or something like that. I saw online that deleting the file can solve some issues, so i deleted it. Still i get the error. can anyone help me here? it could really just be the laptop that i'm on.

Hi,

and welcome to PortableApps.com. Assuming that you are using a fairly recent copy of Firefox Portable I believe that the easiest solution for you would be to simply download a new copy of Firefox Portable from this site and install it over the top of you existing copy. This should leave your data intact, but it would probably be a good idea to backup your drive anyway, and should fix your corrupted file.

If you haven't already, it

If you haven't already, it would be good to use chkdsk on the drive. The easy way is right click on the drive in Windows Explorer, choose Properties | Tools, then Error Checking. It can be more effective if you go to a command prompt and type

CHKDSK /F Secret

replacing X with the drive letter of your portable drive.

It may not solve the problem, but it won't hurt and only takes a few minutes.

It looks like XUL.mfl is in the profile, so re-installing the program might not fix it. But if you use CHKDSK, delete XUL.mfl, and reinstall FFP in something like that order, you might get it to work. You could also try moving Data\profile somewhere else for safekeeping and try starting FFP again; that should freshen your profile, but bookmarks and other customizations will need to be copied back from the saved profile.
