Outgoing Server Problem

Hello
i am using the Thundebird to collect the Privat-email at the office Wink
this part is working for all 3 Adresses.

the Problem i have - in the company i work the clossed the conection to send mail throu a extern mail account. but the company is given a outgoing adresse.

My Problem is, i can't set it as default outgoing server. I mean i can do it but the mail still try to send throug the normal autgoing server.

Just a guess

Just a guess (since i had this issue at one time as well) but make sure you are changing the SMTP server settings inteh accountprofile not in the outgoing server settings. Chagning one doesnt not neccesarily change the other.

but into the account i can't define a Outgoing Server. it is just at the end whrere all outgoing server are defined!

What he probably meant is....

After you add the new SMTP server details in the outgoing servers section, you also need to go to each incoming account section, and change which outgoing server it is configured to use.

Note: even if you set the new SMTP to be the default, it usually won't help, since the accounts remember which one they are bound to.

It is on the overview page for each account, NOT on the Server Settings page, right down at the bottom of the options, called Outgoing Server (SMTP).

Vincent, as Jimbo said, it's in the individual account settings.

First configure your additional Outgoing server in the the Outgoing Server section.
Then you can go to your Account Settings and select the server from the dropdown.

This works great for me, since I have multiple email addresses, and I use a different outgoing server for each.

However, if you need to switch to a different server depending on whether you are at work, there is another option.
This only works if you set up a second (3rd, whatever) e-mail account with a separate outgoing server.

When you Compose your email, at the top of the window is a dropdown that says "From". Here, you can select any of your currently configured accounts, and it will send using the outgoing server from that account.

weird settings

I have a different problem with the outgoing server setting. It won't change.

I use 3 imap accounts each with different servers, but Thunderbird only sees one of the servers in the outgoing server drop-down list, plus the "Default Server" option which leads to the same server.

I've tried removing and re-adding the accounts but it's the same problem, EVEN when the account with the "persistent" server is erased.

And I can't find the settings file for this app, so no manual fix...

That's because, counter-intuitively....

you don't add the outgoing servers with each account.

You need to add the outgoing servers completely separately, then associate then with the accounts.

In TBP, go to Tools-->Account Settings

Scroll the pane on the left way down to the bottom, and find the single line, Outgoing Server (SMTP) and click on it.

Then, over in the right hand pane, you will need to add each server config in turn using the add and edit buttons.

Once you have done that, you can go back to each of the accounts listed on the page and associate them with whichever outgoing server you want them to use.

Oh, the settings file that contains this info is ThunderbirdPortable\Data\Profile\prefs.js but you really don't want to mess with that. It is an extremely complex format for the account and server configuration, and relatively small changes to it could end up with you losing your email if you're not careful, so look if you want, but don't touch Wink

Like I said above...

It is a really evil place to put it, since you would expect it to be with the servers, but it is not.

Basically, when you are editing the accounts, you need to click on the NAME of the account on the left, not one of the settings options.

On that page, you should see a box for Account Name, then some details for its Default Identity. These include
Your Name
Email Address
Reply-to Address
Organisation
Signature
vCard
Outgoing Server (SMTP)

ok got it now, confusin anyway , but one has to get used to such things
