I am having a very frustrating problem with Gmail and PTB, and was wondering if anyone might have some insights. I'll start with the usual preface to such postings: I've been using PTB through all the various versions to access my Gmail account via Pop3 since the start of september, and am now on PTB 1.5 RC1. It used to work fine, up until...
.. earlier this week, when I started getting "There is insufficient disk space to download all your email" errors. This is interesting, because I have about 60MB free on my USB stick. Checking via the web, the new email in my account adds up to be about 100kb or so. So, I did the suckers thing, and cleared out the USB stick, and Tb started downloaded everything that I had received since September (I have the "leave messages on the server" option box ticked.) I didn't think anything of it, deleted them all, and it went back to working normally for a few days. Since then, the problem has popped up a couple of times more, and although it can be solved in the same way, I'm getting right sick of it.
So, the qn is, does anyone have any better solutions? Its probably not a Portable Tb problem per se. But why does Thunderbird keep loosing track of what I've downloaded, and what I haven't? Searching Bugzilla and the forums hasn't really turned up anything useful. Do you guys have any ideas?
Cheers,
Trevva
As is the way with these things, you make a posting asking if anyone knows the answer, and five minutes later stumble across it while looking for something completely different, thus making a complete arse of your self.
This is a known bug: Bug number 262408, http://tinyurl.com/bz8ny and it seems that its been lurking for quite a while. Its caused by a corruption of the file POPSTATE.DAT - I was able to solve the problem by getting an old copy of POPSTATE.DAT from a profile backup, and copying it over my (corrupted) one. Weeding out 17 duplicate messages was thus a lot easier than weeding out a thousand!
Lessons learnt:
1. Always have lots of profile backups around the place
2. Search bugzilla thoroughly before making an arse of yourself

Trevva
FreePops allows you to recieve from multiple web-mail interfaces, including gmail. It's a very nice program.
