Apologies - but I did use the search and nothing came up - also, please do not be so agressive - It's my first post - and I'm thinking twice of using the forum ever again - if this is the attitude I get.
He was simply pointing out the search feature, I wouldn't call that aggressive at all. Usually the forums are REALLY helpful. He did point you to the right place as well.
Maybe a better way of phrasing his comment would be as follows:
Please try the search feature located at the top of the page, in most cases your question has already been asked, and you can find your answer more quickly.
And welcome to PortableApps.com

Sorry. I didn't mean to be aggressive - just short as I thought you knew you way around here. I saw that you are a member for over a year so I didn't know that this was your first post.

I found a working portable inkscape from here http://www.softpedia.com/get/PORTABLE-SOFTWARE/Multimedia/Graphics/Windo... hope this helps.
i did a updated version .46, just a test version, may be few mistakes, but wasn't going to post it since Jwyanze was going to do it but until he gets around to it, i just needed a portable version for myself for my own use so i did this.
Here it is

Getting a server error on the DL
It also says that the file size is 0kb
I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.
not the first time live skydrive has given me trouble with that,

Just what I was looking for and right on time. Download will take years here but I look forward to testing that.
Why in the Abyss name isn't Inkscape ever added to the regular list of Portable Apps on the site along with other must-have open software like Gimp, OO.org, Firefox and so on? There has already been an installer release of an older version and it worked good, except now it's not completely compatible with Vista.
Hope it catches up this time!
well this is an unofficial alpha build I did for myself, a real beta was never done, just another unofficial version
can you or someone else test this on vista and tell me if it leaves any files anywhere, I have no access to vista, so if there's any problem I can change them easily once I know where the problem is.

Just to clarify (I think I might be misunderstood in my last post) I mean the old version (0.45.1) didn't work well on Vista. I don't know about leaving files anywhere, but the menu options disappeared on mouse hover, just to name one of the bugs.
Can I help? If I manage to download your installer and run it here (on Vista), how can I tell about it "leaving files anywhere"?
Edit: just so people know, in my wild search for a way to make it work off of my PortableApps drive, before coming across this thread, I unzipped the original Inkscape release into my Portable Apps folder, and the application seems to run fine. But then it also has about 5 executables in its primary folder, and they all show on the PortableApps menu unless you use PortableApps Menu Mod R30...
i know you meant the old version but you reminded me that I:
A- had not testing on Vista
B- didn't add the remove commands in for Vista, only the XP version
check this folder and please report back if there are any files or folder called "Inkscape" in $APPDATA
in XP (maybe vista too)"Documents and Settings\user\application data\Inkscape (I think that's it I'll check that ASAP)
for XP there is part of the run script that erases them, but the standard path is different in Vista, so I might need to set it to delete that
While many application work in your way, they do leave traces on the host computer like folder mentioned above, with a packaged portableapps, assuming the author did his job right, those files are moved or deleted
I'll get to any fixes tomorrow, tonight I got plenty of work to do, but if you or anyone else can tell me where files are left (if they are at all) on vista or XP, i'll fix that

I searched for folders named inkscape after using installer, couldn't find any in my OS HD. Installation folder is about 100MB in size, while original Inkscape unzipped directory is about 220MB I think.
Program seems to work okay, I think it's not saving preferences though.
ahh i figured that would happen
ok well that's the first bug to fix then
in my pre-release testing i got it to copy the prefs but not go back to them so i changed it to just delete the files,
i didn't really need them to save for my purposes but since someone else is actually gonna use this, i will follow through in making it and try to get it to read the prefs from the right folder
yes it's heavily compressed, it is a huge program to run off a stick, and won't get much smaller then it is, but i will go through and see if there are any files i can remove or further compress
hmmm I'm going to add in the remove $appdata\inkscape commands anyway, just to be safe, but that's good
it needs work, lots of it,Jwyanze had dibs on Inkscape, so he probably will take over this project at some point

Preferences are useful if you end up using this kind of program a lot, or its advanced features to a certain extent. The installer another user made for the older version seemed to save preferences in its own \PortableApps\InkscapePortable folder.
You did a good job compressing it, hope it can stay that way.
Inkspace still has a lot to do in the way of commercial formats compatibility, but it sure is powerful for designing logos or anything vectorial -- it's hard to beat Corel Draw there, but Inkscape goes a long way.
I can't wait to put my hand in the final installer.
i did mess around with the prefs a little bit and with my limited knowledge of nsis there doesn't seem to be much i can do
maybe Jwyanze can when and if he takes over
you have no idea how long it took to compress that lol, i used a high compression level to start with with the Portable Apps Compactor, then compressed it further with the NSIS installer
like 200 megs down to a 36 meg installer(I think it's about 36 megs I don't have it handy)

The best feat was in my opinion to strip it of at least 100MB of installed space, that is, if that's your doing too. The original Inkscape installation weighs about 220MB.
And of course, a 35MB installer for a 100MB program sounds good too.
I did not start it yet. No one responded so i did not know if to go ahead.
Never curse the alligator till you done cross the bridge.
If you'd like to use mine and build off it go right ahead, I just made this for personal use, for a school project, it's not finished but it suits my needs, nor was I going to go any further with it,i just posted it cause I figured it may be handy
if you do build off it, you should know that it deletes the $APPDATA\Inkscape folder but doesn't move or copy the data anywhere

I downloaded ur version but haven't got the time to look at the code. Maybe i will have time by tuesday right now i am tring to help one of my friends test his software for his project. He has to hand it up so by tuesday by then i will beable to look at it.

Did you find any other bugs by the way? It seems pretty usable as it is, even without prefs. I love this.
nope it seems to be no more stable then the regular desktop version, few crashes here and there on both, someday i will get around to doing the prefs, hopefully soon
As soon as i do get the prefs done I'll post it int he beta testing forum
