Thanks to all who helped test.
I've posted a pre-release of Pidgin Portable 2.3.1 for folks to try out. In this new release, Pidgin has been updated to 2.3.1 (of course), we're now using Pidgin's recommended method of making it portable, the installer has been updated to the new one used by GIMP Portable, GTKLegacy still works (for Windows 9x), CommonFiles\GTK should still work in most instances, etc. The installer will update an existing instance of Pidgin Portable, of course.
Download Pidgin Portable 2.3.1 Pre-Release 1 [11.8MB download / 9.6-51.2MB installed]
(may take a few minutes to become available)
Please put this through its paces as usual. I'm hoping to post the final release later today (Thursday).
We really need folks to test who have had issues with Pidgin Portable in the past... especially the Error loading pidgin.dll bug.
Thanks,
John
I had no errors nor leftovers. Thanks for the update.

Great, it works rather well! Glad to see this, I'm definetly one of those who "were looking forward" for it.

I tried it briefly before I left for work this morning and everything seems to work good under vista.
I'm delaying the release from today til tomorrow due to lack of beta testers. Hopefully enough people will try this out by tomorrow so this can be released.

I did a update on my flash drive and a clean install on the hard drive and both worked fine. No problems, and nothing left behind. Like magic as usual good job!!!

No problems here. Nothing left behind, works great, flawless installation over the previous version. It's ready for prime time.

No more issues with loading of pidgin.dll so far.
It works great as far as I can tell so far. Great work as usual!
Think I am getting a conflict with Filezilla and XAMMP
When Pidgin is running Filezilla wont start and I found (on one occasion) XAMMP would not launch Apache from the control panel - Both scenarios I was getting a Windows error sound but no dialogues and both came good after closing Pidgin
Checked ports for a port conflict but port 80 was still free
mmmm reboot and seems OK now - Might have been something else playing up - Will keep testing
Hi,
Tested pre-release1 on Windows 2000 Pro & Server and XP Pro sp2 Pc. No errors encountered yet.
Now will test with Vista 32 and 64bit.
Looking good.
2.3 cleared up one issue I was having. Now let's see if it can clear up another . . .
