activated automatically. If your GIMP look the same as on the Screenshot here then the Layout is used.

i will try this and caome back. thankx
i dont know, but for me i went ahead and installed everything and then ran gimp, and it ran just fine, faster than prior versions. still buggy though.
no. still does not work.
So, you've run GIMP at least one, and the layout isn't as specified in the screenshot above? You shouldn't have the background unless you install the background plugin as well, but the placement of the palettes should be the same.
Did you let the installer automatically find where to install to? You should be installing to your GIMPPortable folder.
To make sure You have no corrupted download extract gimp to your desktop , proceed as below then copy it over to Your USB drive.
goto
%Your drive%:\PortableApps\GIMPPortable\Data\settings\
and -if there - delete the files "sessionrc" and "sessionrc-backupbeforepslayout",
then start gimp once and close it again, make sure You have no corrupted pslayoutinstaller, then install the pslayout, run gimp again, it should look like the picture you mentioned. If not there might be a corrupted gimp install.

I had the same problem and followed wk's instruction and it works.
Still does not work. !!
i tried to install on the desktop, start once then run the photoshop layout plugin.
start again but no change
trued the same with installing to the usb drive ; still no change
applied the normal zip file to a standard installed Gimp, copy the sessionrc to the setting folder and again no change!
can i have a working copy of the sessionrc file from anyone of you please to try it and see if it works?
have no idea. You run it on windows XP?The sessionrc will be created after the first run...so I don´t have no more suggestion, perhaps anyone else...?

Have tried all the above with no success, same problem as hamohd70. Tried uninstalling everything and then doing a fresh download of -GIMP_Portable_2.4.5_Rev_2.paf.exe- and -GIMP_Portable_Photoshop_Layout_1.0.paf.exe- .
Reninstalled Gimp, run once, closed down then reinstalled Photoshop layout, restarted Gimp but still no Photoshop layout! Running on XP Pro
to make it clear:
Gimp doesn´t look like Adobe CS3 afterwards , it´s just a rearrangement of the tools appearance photoshop like
goto data/settings, open a file called sessionrc with notepad
and replace the contents by:
That should work, if not, there´s perhaps a problem with the launcher/gimp not reading the Data/settings folder contents

Just wanted to report that this layout works fine on Windows2000. Of course I started GIMP multiple times before I installed the new layout. One thing I noticed is that Opening files using the GIMP window still closes the program (crash). I use the WinOpen plugin which always works fine no matter which version of GIMP I use it in.
Also, If i decide to not use this layout how to I return to the original???

just use the uninstaller linked to on the Plugin's page.

ok....so that means I can't switch between the two (the default and Photoshop) inside GIMP....alright. I'll live with it like this for a while and see how I like it.
Thanks

you can keep both the installer and the uninstaller on your drive and switch...
Or you could have 2 portable GIMPs (but I think that would be a liitle over the top)

actually i already have at least two (different ver) copies of GIMP, so I'm WAY ahead of you!!

combined with bakcground window it's pretty close, but i really hate that the windows are just attached to the background window thus when you have it active they are on top of existing windows, instead of inside the background window, which is pretty much perfered and its also unsupported which is also a flat out bummer.
Hi,
This info is from the sessionrc file:
"
# GIMP sessionrc
# This file takes session-specific info (that is info, you want to keep
# between two GIMP sessions). You are not supposed to edit it manually, but
# of course you can do. The sessionrc will be entirely rewritten every time
# you quit GIMP.
"
Follow below steps:
- Run and close GIMP, because when you close GIMP then it entirely rewrites that instance of sessionrc file what it really uses.
- Search for "sessionrc" files on all of your drives. Whichever instance of sessionrc has the most recent "Date Modified" parameter is the one, what is used and rewritten by your GIMP installation (every time you open and close the application).
- Therefore, overwrite that instance of sessionrc file (what is actually used by GIMP) with that instance of sessionrc file what you find in the folder (...\GIMPPortable\Data\settings), where you installed the GIMP Photoshop Layout add-on.
- Launch GIMP
That's all
hi!
I can install the layout, I just tried what is that, but I don't want it. Nowhere I can find how to remove, so create an installer to remove the PS layout
LadyMaryJane
there's an uninstaller on the photoshop layout page.
