WhereIsIt Portable

WhereIsIt_Portable_3.91.paf.exe

I made a portable version of whereisit. Of course package not contain whereisit but you may download it from WhereIsIt-soft.com. It's commercial app so it isn't included in the package.

Please test it and put your comments here.

WhereIsIt is an application

WhereIsIt is an application written for Windows operating systems, and designed to help you maintain and organize a catalog of your computer media collection, including CD-ROMs, audio CDs, diskettes, removable drives, hard drives, network drives, DVDs, or any other present or future storage media Windows can access as a drive.
The primary goal for WhereIsIt is to provide access to the contents of cataloged disks, even when they are not available on the system, or even not your own. You can browse their contents, search for items you need, use imported descriptions and thumbnails, and organize data using categories, flags etc.

WhereIsIt can be used to handle any kind of data, including downloaded programs, magazine CD-ROMs, music collections like MP3s or audio CDs, graphics collections, document backups, etc. WhereIsIt can handle lots of them, too, a couple hundreds or thousands disks in a catalog is nothing unusual, yet catalogs remain reasonably small, single-filed and easy to transfer or send to other users. You can also create more than one catalog, and at any time open and work with as many catalogs at once as needed.

WhereIsIt is easy to use for both beginners and advanced users. It features a familiar and well thought-out, Explorer-like user interface, combined with strong searching and reporting capabilities, multi-language support, automated description and thumbnails importing through extendable plugins from more than 70 different sources, and much more.

I don't think so either as

I don't think so either as from what I remember (I used an older version) but the catalogs get pretty big. Also, If you aren't carrying all your scanned media with you, it's not much use to knowe what cd a file is one when it's miles and miles away and not accessible.

Catalogs become big if you

Catalogs become big if you have enabled importing thumbnails etc.
Ok, you can'y carry all of your CDs and DVDs but sometimes this app is pretty handy. For example you're at work and your wife call to you because she's searching for CD-R with her favourite MP3s. You plug your pendrive into your computer in work and you see where's this cd or who has it.

Sorry my weak english;).

So what's stopping the wife from learning how to use WhereIsIt herself on the machine at home? In that scenario, teaching her how use the program solves the problem rather than using a workaround.

The program should be co-located with the media...wherever that is.

I don't think so.

The program should be located wherever you want to use it.

Some of my backup media are in the loft, some are at work and some are at my parent's house (the last two are 'off-site' backups in case my house burns down)

I am attempting to convert to using as many portable apps as possible, not just so that I can run them wherever I am on other PCs, but also to avoid having to install them on each PC I own, hence I'm looking for a good disc cataloger.

Wow, more unreasonable

Wow, more unreasonable discussion here and this person asked for only the "wrapper" of a commercial application to be tested. So, now one must jump through the hoop of whether people on this site think it is a good idea, in their mind, to make a certain app into a portable one. Another reason this PAM idea will not be as big as it could be. This looks very frustrating to me. Please, someone call me a troll again, for simply trying to figure out what is going on around here and what it takes to b e acceptable.

To start,

you can check the forum guidelines. To get used to the way people talk here, look around without posting. Then since you would understand the way things work here, you would start posting *positively*. See, the main thing that people get annoyed by here is people that don't speak kindly, or people that don't put enough in there request apps threads to actually make the app portable. That's basically how I started out about 3-4 months ago :).

WhereIsIt 3.93 is now portable

Since version 3.93 (June, 18th 2008) WhereIsIt is now portable and could store settings to current folder instead of registry

See changelog for full details: http://www.whereisit-soft.com/history.html

VVV Portable is an Open

VVV Portable is an Open Source application that might as well be of use for people needing to catalog their media.
