Greetings,
I've tried searching but had no luck. I am running out of room on my current thumbdrive and I've purchased a new larger GB one. what's the easiest way to transfer everything from my old one to my new one so all my settings and preferences stay the same. Will the backup function work? or could I just copy and paste them?

The drag and drop method should work, but might skip over "hidden" files unless you have told Explorer you want to see them. In particular, if autorun.inf is hidden, it might not get copied. Of course you can always reinstall the latest PAM beta to get the autorun.inf file back, without messing up your settings or doing other funky things.

Using Toucan is the easiest way.
Use the Sync Copy option
While Toucan is a great application, for simply moving files to a new device, a copy/paste in Explorer seems much easier than having to learn and configure a new application.

For a few files I would agree but the OP was talking about the whole tree on a USB device.
The disadvantage of copy/paste in explorer is that you can not see what is going to be transfered - if you get it wrong quite a few files are copied before you can hit the cancel button.
Toucan has a preview function so you can see what is going to be done.
I think it also should retain folder timestamps (which Explorer copying doesn't do) which is good if you want an exact copy.
