ASuite writes to registry?

I just took a peek at ASuite, a menu supposedly for use on Portable Media. I downloaded the zip and unzipped it.

I started if an a warning popped up on my PC.
Category: System Startup global entry, value added
Entry ASuite, new data path to asuite.exe.

Also I got a skinned version that looked like a PAM mod as well as the slim one I expected to see. Both at the same time... Anyone has some experience with this menu?

I for now assume this is a beta app with issues to iron out.

Maybe you enabled option

Maybe you enabled option Start ASuite on startup system. If yes, ASuite make (on application startup or options closing) a key in windows registry (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run).

I did download the zip

I did download the zip file.. The value was added on first run of the menu. May I suggest to turn it off as default?

BTW.. I noticed the post was moved and I could not find it again.. I found this by checking out my recent posts list... Is there a way to get notified about (re)moved posts?

It is enabled by default. But you can disable this option and on options closing, ASuite will delete key. Smile

The first time I ran ASuite

The first time I ran ASuite 1.5 Zone Alarm warned me ASuite was trying to set itself to run every time my computer started. Now I don't want this so I pressed the Deny button. ASuite dialog pops up saying "Failed to set data for 'ASuite'"

Right clicking on ASuite's icon in the system tray gives an Access Violation at address 004FD570....Read of address 0000008. and a "Cannot change Visible in OnShow or OnHide warning.

It now isn't possible to exit ASuite, I have to CTRL+ALT+DEL and kill it's process.

I really think it is a bad idea to have this enabled by default in a menu intended to be portable.

(and BTW relative addressing is broken, my ASuite.xml from 1.4 doesn't work)

Delete deny rule from Zone Alarm and try to execute again ASuite 1.5.

Ok, I will change this option (disabled by default).

Sorry, my mistake, only partially broken Smile - links work but icons don't show with relative adressing, i.e. ..\..\..\folder\folder\app.exe (I reported this as a comment on your web page when 1.5 Beta was released)

On my computer, relative

On my computer, relative path with '..' works. By the way, try to clean cache from options (menu file->options->tab advanced->button clear elements...).

If icons doesn't work yet, try to use variable $drive ($Drive\path\file.exe is equal to H:\path\file.exe, if ASuite is on H drive) in icon pathes.

Did a new install of ASuite

Did a new install of ASuite 1.5, so empyty cache, and icons don't show for me if I set relative address as ..\..\path\file.exe

I'll stick with 1.4 until 1.5 works with icons because to use $drive when running on a PC, as well as on a UFD, need to have a dedicated partition (or put up with a mess on an existing partition) which isn't very practical.

Hello, I downloaded the zip

Hello, I downloaded the zip file because I wanted to try the portable version.

If it does write to the registry on purpose, please make the default so it does not.
Portable Apps who write into the registry to start at boot is in my opinion not-done, especially when the menu is plugged as being portable. It's not obvious to me that this is an option and did write without asking.

I suggest you or make the 'installer' handle the registry, so that you can ask the user if he wants it, so the app as zip will not by default write to the registry. It's that I got a warning telling me the menu was to write to registry else I probably would not have known it until much later.

Please consider improving this part of the menu.

And I truly wanted to try the menu because it doesn't have a skin... Imagine my surprise when a PAM clone popped up (at one point with the old menu as well). Makes me think about downloading an older version without the PAM clone look and only one menu instance...

I already did it. Disabled by default. (I said it in a post in this topic)

He means he liked it better

He means he liked it better before you added the PAM style interface to it. He liked the plain PStart style interface better.

LOGAN, you can disable the

LOGAN, you can disable the PAM style menu and use the standard PStart style menu. It's somewhere in the options menu, I just don't remember where.
