LightExplorer, then Explorer, now LightExplorer again...?

I upgraded Notepad++ Portable to 4.8 when it came out, and found it had a new plugin bundled: Explorer (which is really nice). Today I just upgraded my nephew's copy of N++P to 4.81r2 and there's no Explorer, just LightExplorer... I even tried installing a clean copy of 4.81r2, and the clean copy only has LE...

Is there a reason you switched back to LE, or was this a packaging error?

Notepad++

This is due to Notepad++ itself. Originally, Explorer was dropped due to crashing issues and LightExplorer was added. Then Explorer was brought back. Then back to LightExplorer again. The installer doesn't remove them any longer, though.

Though it will be removing the hex edit plugin as that was dropped from today's release of Notepad++ due to incompatibility with unicode. The NP++ standard installer removes the hex editor. So, the NP++ Portable installer does, too.

Bah.

Incompatibility with Unicode? Okay... but a hex editor is only supposed to work with raw binary data, so it shouldn't matter what format text is in (why the heck would I want to hex edit a text file in the first place?)... *is confused*

Oh well. Notepad++ seems to be really fast-moving these days... it's making my head spin.

Good. Still haven't finished that game, but I have been working on it, if slowly. Blum

Unicode

I would imagine the problem with Unicode is in the display end of things. All hex editors try and display any readable text, usually in a side pane, and if Unicode isn't supported then it can only display ANSI text.

Dunno

But that's what the release notes say.
