Mozilla Firefox 3 Beta 4

Mozilla Firefox 3 Beta 4 is the fourth test release of the upcoming 3.0 version of Firefox. With tons of new features, security enhancements, performance upgrades and more, it's one of the most widely-anticipated releases this year. And, thanks to the PortableApps.com packaging, you can try out all the new features without impacting your locally-installed copy of Firefox. For more on what's new, read the Mozilla Firefox 3 Beta 3 Release Notes.

New In This Release

This release updates Firefox to 3 Beta 4 (release notes) and has an improved launcher that will clean up the new extensions directory used on the local PC.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

Somehow I missed this. I think you were quicker than Lifehacker on this.

Works fine as new install, upgrading from 2.0.x shows XUL failure..

As always, support issues go in the forums, not as comments on a news story.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

And I really like the new features/look etc.

I have tried this on the library computers a dozen times. Though it starts up with a nice splash screen (love the artwork by the way), it either immediately fails and crashes, or it just won't connect to the net (even after playing with setting). However, it will run mysteriously well on a friends Win98 machine and Vista machine. Also runs unusually well through Wine on Debian Etch, Ubuntu Feisty, and Knoppix, but nothing else in the Linux department. Will continue to test as best I can on some of my friends other computers. I like testing beta and experimental software, especially when it's not my computer!

comparison of features
Windows: empty pockets, slow computer, crippling malware, user level frustration, inability to meet deadlines, security holes
Linux: full pockets, super fast computer, endless software, endless customization, endless potential
