the library that i use my portable firefox at have change their computer, so that i cannot launch firefox from my usb flash drive.
what happen? i thought that you could use firefox on any computer.
please help!!
is there a work around?
i hate using their microsoft ie browser.
also now i have to use the library card # as my account to access the internet via their installed microsoft ie browser.

Heh. My county did the card thing about 7 or 8 months ago. I suspect that they also recently blocked of anything registering as a usb drive. It seems the gov buildings are getting smart ;). Anyway, it's not entirely fool-proof. My U3 will show up as a drive I can click to launch the interface, but I cannot save anything to the root or below. I think it's because part of it registers as a 'composite/cd drive'. The plain usb drive I had plugged in beside it didn't even light up. If your library has locked down the kiosks, then there's not much to be done about it right now, except, perhaps investing in a U3 drive. I should know, I'm junior staff in one.
Edit: ~Sigh~ I'm thinking like a librarian, lol. It may not be the drive that's blocked, it could just be the Firefox executable. You might want to try renaming the Firefox exe; just be sure to use the Firefox .ini file so that the launcher knows what to look for. If worse comes to worse, there's always Opera.

Very simple. If you can't run programs from a USB drive, then you can't run programs from a USB drive. There's nothing we can do about that; blame the administrator of the systems you're using.

PD : Please, I don't speak very well in English, I'm from Argentina.
Very simple. Open IE, type the address of your USB drive (typically D: or E:) and voilà! Internet Explorer turns into Windows Explorer, and you'll see your drive and its applications, including Portable Firefox. Launch PFF, and enjoy! It's a good idea to have your drive's directory open to launch other apps if needed so you only have to dirty your hands with IE once.
BTW, next time be more specific than "firefox problem".

can you provide more step by step instuction?
i went into file open & then type in the following commands as shown on the public computer where my pff resides on my usb.
G:\portable_firefox_1.0.7_beta\PortableFirefox
it came back saying access denied.
please help!!!!
i can still use their internet explorer after i type in the account # they give me, but i really like to use pff from my drive to keep my info more private.
Type it in the address bar like a URL. If it still says "access denied", there's not much you can do. If it says "not available" or it shows something other than the contents of your drive, you have the wrong letter.

On these computers, you can't type a filepath into the address bar, but you can navigate there with WinExplorer. Hit WinKey+E and see if that works. Or try typing file:// into the address bar.

You can type a filepath into IE. If I type C: into the IE address bar, I'll get a windows explorer window with the contents of C:. Unless, of course, windows explorer is not allowed.
