Looks nice

But compression is more than UPX. It's also Pangout, cleanup, tarballing, recompressing...Check here
Patrick already registered the project Here. But I've been like that too, he'll probably say that it's better now than later, and let you keep it.
*Off-Topic*I just wanted to tell you that I'm working on a SuperTuxkart, with the newer PAF specs.
Looks very, very nice.

Apparently

everybody seems to take Patrick's Projects because he registers way ahead of time :P.
Anyways, I'm trying to figure out the unTGZ plugin...

That's Cool

I'm glad you did it. I did do it one night, but I had a was trying to see if there was a switch and the X-Moto devs told me there was, but I don't think the switch provided the functionality I needed. I'll assume your copying files back and forth, but I'll take a look.

Sweet

Again, thanks for doing this, I love this game. Here's the changes you will want to make. Remember, I'm just picky. Smile

  • You've got xmoto, Xmoto, xMoto, X-Moto, x-Moto, for goodness sakes, pick one. And I pick X-Moto as it's really the name. Update that throughout the App\AppInfo\appinfo.ini.
  • appicon.ico should include 48, 32, and 16 pixel sizes in both 32 and 8 bit formats. IcoFX is great for doing this.
  • I don't know if you did in the later release, but I have the first. Though as said above compress using the PortableApps.com Compressor now in beta. Just compress App\xmoto.
  • Again, I don't know if you did in 0.4.2, but add a help.html, thus requiring Other\Help.
  • You're missing App\Readme.txt, and Other\Source\AppSource.txt, copy them from another app.
  • Rename your source file to X-MotoPortable.nsi.
  • Also rename the ini to X-MotoPortable.ini, this will require updating of the launcher. Also rename the splash, etc.
  • Add your copyright in the readme, and change all Xmoto's to X-Moto.
  • The Readme.txt mentions -\ , fix that of course.
  • Add your copyright in the source, and change the site to /X-MotoPortable or XMotoPortable if you like.
  • Again, update all the random spellings of xMoTo in the source to X-Moto.
  • The legal copyright should be changed from John T. Haller to PortableApps.com & Contributers.
  • If you get a change, look at Simeon's Assault Cube Portable in beta to see how he uses a string to launch a string that will in turn hide the command window.
  • Better yet, just have the launcher launch xmoto.exe with the command line switch like this, which will in turn allow you not needing to copy settings back and forth. String is:

    		StrCpy $EXECSTRING `"$EXEDIR\App\${DEFAULTAPPDIR}\${DEFAULTEXE}" --configpath "$EXEDIR\Data\settings"`

That's all. You did awesome man, can't wait to see it with those changes. I'm trying to talk to the developers for a better logo right now, but for now stretch the current one for the 48.

Also, update your post to the format stickied at the top of beta testing when you get a chance please.

Edit: And... lol, well I won't explain, so one of the other devs is giving me the e-mail of another developer.

Done

I tried the "StrCpy" before but I didn't get it to work back then so i used the .bat file instead. It works now though so thanks for that! Smile
Everything is done and fixed. I also updated the main post.
Thanks for the help Patrick! Smile

Nice!

Nice work updating those changes so quickly. Here's just a couple small things I missed that you don't need to update for, but change them now before you forget. 1. The link to the portable website in the help file goes to \xmotoportable as apposed to /x-motoportable like appinfo.ini reads. 2. Line 123 and 124 of your source are not needed.

That's it! Awesome work. If no one finds any registry entries or anything, I think this one's pretty good to go. I'm still waiting on a reply from the developer about the icon.

app icon

i don't think you should have changed the app icon to a flash drive; a flash drive has nothing to do with x-moto. you should leave the x-moto logo, as the game is still x-moto; the only thing that changed is that you added a portable app theme. btw, i don't know how i feel about the evil hippo lookin guy but the theme is still cool. anyways, that's my opinion

The original icon

I didn't really like the original icon and since MrElchbau made me a new icon without me asking him i thought i'd use it Smile
If everyone has your opinion on the icon then i'll change it back but for now i'm not gonna reupload the whole thing just for a new icon Wink

I'd keep the original icon,

I'd keep the original icon, or find somebody to make a nicer version of the original. As said above, a flash drive has nothing to do with x-moto

freezing / crashing

I don't think this has anything to do with your launcher and all, but I've tested this on several XP computers, and sometimes... just sometimes, it will freeze at the start of loading (caching) the graphics. It just freezes, and the computer needs a hard shut down.

I can't figure out WHEN it happens, but it just does every so often.

Strange

Strange.. you're the first one that has this problem.
But the caching of the graphics only happens at first start. After one successful launch it should launch a lot quicker.
As it is now i can't help you on this.
Keep me updated though.

at first start meaning...

I haven't checked your code yet, but when you say "at first start" do you mean at first start with regards to the same drive letter?

I really love this game, though I wish there were easier levels. I run this in various environments. I could be running this over a network share off my USB drive, or running on different computers that use different drive letters for the drive.

When you say "at first start" does it mean that only when you run in the first time and never again does it do the cache?

It freezes showing on the screen "0% ....." yada yada.

Sorry

Sorry for the possible misunderstanding: yes I mean at the very first start (= right after the installation) on the drive. It builds the level cache which is stored in "\Data\settings\LCache" which, I think, allows it to load the levels faster after the first start. Are there files in "LCache"? When you close x-moto are those files still there? If they don't then that explains the caching of levels everytime.
It seems it's not a launcher problem so i can't help you on this one until you give me some "better" information.

On a side note:

The PA theme for x-moto is also available from the main x-moto site and Mr Elchbau's icons will be used in the next official x-moto release! Smile
(They're in fact already available on the main site under "Extras")

LCache

i noticed that the folder LCache in Data\settings filled up to 20 MB after a long time of playing. this folder can probably be emptied on exit.
