Anyone know if there is a way to hide the profile picture next to your username (and have the space collapsed) in the Start Menu? And if so how? My operating system is XP SP2 if that helps...

Not unless you turn off the Welcome screen in the User Accounts control panel. If you use the "classic" (Windows 2000-style) logon, the user pictures go away. If you want the Welcome screen or fast user switching, you're stuck with the user pictures.
...though I really don't get what the big deal is.
Edit: Another way to hide the user picture in the Start menu is to right-click your desktop, go to Properties and under the Appearance tab select "Windows Classic style" for Windows And Buttons. For some reason, Classic doesn't show the user picture, even with the new-style Start menu.

Personally I like the look better without the picture. Thanks for your help though, I'll just stick with the user pictures.
Theme your computer (i.e., with Royale). Those themes don't support the picture.

Actually, Royale does show the picture. I should know--I use it all the time. Most WindowBlinds skins also support user pictures.
By the way: it's "e.g.", not "i.e." (yes, I'm one of those). i.e. stands for "id est", Latin for that is. e.g. means "exempli gratia"--for example.

Why pay for WindowBlinds?
I'm talking about .msstyles. My Royale (and RoyalFour) skins don't show the picture. I should know--I use it all the time.

I use the official Royale theme that Microsoft released shortly after Royale was really popular on Media Center. It has the picture. Now let's just end this argument.
I use the patched UXTheme.dll.

Start Menu? I never use it I have a hidden quick launch bar at the top of my screen with all I mean all the programs on my computer and I also use pstart for my portable apps. I never even click start never There is no reason to rummage through all the garbage that is a programs menu it is frustrateing and time wasting. sorry if i sounded mean.
