Sorry for cluttering up the news thread with this before...
I am upgrading from PTB, 1.5 RC1. Being slightly obsessive, I went through my old PTB folder before deleting or moving anything, looking for any files outside the Profile folder that had been updated recently, or that weren't present in the new install. I found two files that met these criteria...in fact, they met both. They are compreg.dat and xpti.dat, residing in the thunderbird\components folder.
(I notice that files with the same names as these show up in the profile folder too...duplicates?)
Should I copy these over to the new install's app\thunderbird\components folder? Delete them? Do something else?
P.S. Also, to double-check: am I supposed to replace all contents of the new data\profile folder with everything that was in my old profile folder, or do something more subtle?
Snag your whole profile folder from the old and copy it to the new (deleting what's in the new one 1st).
That's it.

I appreciate the reply. My e-mail is a critical part of my daily life...I get a bit skittish when monkeying with it.
But everything seems poifect now after the upgrade. (Well, except for a couple of RSS feeds that won't load...but that's either a bug in the core Thunderbird app or in the site feed, not PTB.) I've even plugged in ten extensions now, and they all work great.
Thanks again for these portable applications; portable Firefox and Thunderbird together are a huge upgrade for my online existence!
It would seem that the profile folder has been remapped between PTB 1.5.0.2 and 1.5.0.3. Took me about 20 minutes to migrate the profile settings, but I got'em there. :o

It's a simple copy from PortableThunderbird\profile in the old version to PortableThunderbird\Data\profile in the new version. It's explained right on the support page.

It is hard to "see" the difference in the folders when it is strung together as single spaced text with no emphasis on what is different.

There are individual files under Portable Thunderbird/Data/profile in the latest release that have been updated. For example, XUL.mfl is now 1.37MB in size, but was 0 bytes in the last version I was using. It is unclear to me what other files have been updated, and what the consequences are if I don't manually pick and choose these files and replace their counterparts in my original profile folder.
No big deal. It just works. Your extensions will be disabled if there is no updated version in the most recent release of TB... but that applies to any install of TB. The XUL cache used to be disabled in PTB 1.0.x... but is enabled in 1.5.x as it can cause extension issues.
Just follow the directions.
