Virtual Dimension Headache!!!! AHH (please help)

Hello all,

after working on this for, well idk, 2 months i think ;), i have a HUGE!!! headache (u wont beleave)
view this launcher code: http://dbdii.mine.nu/VirtualDimensionPortable.nsi

ive been trying to make this code

CopyDLL:
IfKeyExists $WINDIR\system32\mingwm10.dll "something goes here, depends where this code is"
;===If DLL Not Found
CopyFiles /SILENT $EXEDIR\Data\mingwm10.dll $WINDIR\system32
Sleep 800
GoTo "something goes here, depends where this code is"

somewhere in that launcher!

no matter what in the heck i do, it wont copy, and when it copys successfully, Virtual Dimension Freezes.

Can Someone Please Help Me Solve This Issue. TY

Admin Only

Just a note... you can only copy files to system32 if you're logged in with admin rights, so that will limit the usefulness of this.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

understood

I Understand John. Smile
I Didn't Really Intend On This Being That Useful.
If The Computer Already Has The File Then Thats Great.
But I Would Love To Have This Solve.

I Dont Understand This Though
My Sis Is Limited And She Has Access To This Folder system32 Wink I Dont Know Why But She Does.

Na na na, come on!

Is she limited?

Are you sure she's Limited?

Simple test, what happens when she double clicks on the time in the lower right hand corner of the windows task bar ?

Tim

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?

Try the test

Try the test, it couldn't hurt.
This is how problem solving works Wink

Tim

[edit:
Wait, you said "it opened", that SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED if she were limited.

Well

I can only tell you that if she can open the time and change it she is "Not" a Limited User in the normal since of the word.

She might not be full Admin, but she is a least a Power User [which in XP home would be a form of Limited user I think]

Tell me, is this XP Home?

Drop a file

Have "her" create a text file on the desktop and then copy and past it into:
C:\windows\system32

What happens?

[remember the name of the file]

Wow

I don't have access to a limited user account here at work to test but I am surprised.

I expected to discover that she could "look" into system32 [ie read] but not change [write].

The only thing I can think of is:
1. She is a limited but Power User [I don't know how that effects the clock test]
2. Some how she has gotten bestowed with particular permissions.
3. The permissions on system32 are messed up.

I really can't tell you more till I test the limited user at home.

Work Computers

Are Protected FAR FAR FAR FAR Better With An External Windows Application. Ex: Windows SteadyState. Which My Library Uses.

Your Work Computers Are, Most Likey, Using One Of Those Kinds Of Apps
Probually Novell, But Idk what they use.

Na na na, come on!

Just tried it on

I Just tried it on a counter attendants computer [Limited user]

He can look at system32 but can not write the file, dummy.txt, the message was something about you do not have proper permissions blah, blah. This what was expected and what I believe what will happen at home.

We don't really have any special locking procedures here. Just account types, Full and Limited.

Again, are you using XP home or Pro.

You really need to address this problem. If your test Limited User can write to system32 than they are not a True Limited User and your Limited User tests are invalid Sad

only a note

at the home edition, there are no power users, they are only in the professional version - we had the problem a few weeks ago on a friends PC - clean Install of Windows XP home SP2 (german Version) we wanted to make his daughter a power user, that she is still limited in doing some things, but has not to ask for everything...
But surprise, surprise: only admin, user and some backup users are possible, no powerusers, like on my XP proffesional machine or his Win2k pro.
home is limited by itsself in many things and reacts in some things in annother way, then win2k pro or XP pro does.

Well, the only thing I can

Well, the only thing I can really see is that it should be

IfFileExists

You could also try $SYSDIR, which equals "C:\Windows\system32"
