Pre-Release 1 : Updated internal Peazip version to 2.0
John set me up as a Release Tech a few days ago, so I took the liberty of uploading it to the PortableApps project Development Test Releases section as well: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/portableapps/PeaZip_Portable_2.0_Develo...

Thanks Shawn. Patrick's hosting is working fine for me. It may be better to move the test releases that don't have real hosting (XMoto for example is on mediafire) over to the Dev Test section for the SF project.

Well the more apps we host from the official sourceforge project the better our stats are and the more exposure we get. That was my thinking anyway...
I'm working on XMoto already.
Edit: Also it might be a good way to notify the Beta Testing Team. If all testers sign up for notifications for the Development Test and Pre-Release sections and we have Release Techs upload to the site and send notifications that solves the problem of how to keep everyone up to date.

I don't see why we keep bragging about out statistics. It seems to be like they're pretty bogus considering we're nearing like 50 applications and eMule is still exceeding us my almost triple the downloads. We've also pushed out like 20 pointless revisions (me included). I know most of our applications get more downloads than the regular versions, but really, how can we be proud of statistics that have so many more advantages to others?
I don't think we should have all Dev Tests uploaded to SourceForge. Pre-Releases obviously, but for Development Tests, there's no big benefit. It may get more downloads, causing more exposure, sure. But almost nobody from those downloading it gonna come back and report a bug whether we have links in the help etc, or not. It's just gonna slow everyone down to have to submit a file, wait for it to get uploaded, and then release it. Especially with the amount of development tests one app may have these days. I've got plenty of hosting and I'd love to host whoever I can. I can offer FTP accounts as well as web-based logins. I can also offer download statistics on whatever basis straight to your inbox.
And lets not forget that you submitted GnuCash Portable to Lifehacker, possible the GnuCash website, and other places. So it's only natural it has a lot of downloads.
This is actually a part of a larger discussion Ryan and I have had as well. Dev Tests on SF don't get us anything really useful in terms of a boost in numbers. It's more about permanence and reliability. SourceForge's downloads will be around as long as they're supposed to in terms of making code available under the GPL, etc. And we don't have to worry about a server outtage taking our files with it (SourceForge has backups and mirrors all over the world).
For Pre-Releases and other official and semi-official PA stuff, we'll be doing them all on SF to ensure permanence and availability. For the dev tests, it's fine for people to do them where they'd like right now. In the future, we'll setup something more consistent for everyone.
Getting back onto the actual topic of this thread, though this release of PeaZip 2.0 should be 2.0 Pre-Release 1, though, since it's using an official splash and is just a new release of an existing official app.

For getting slightly back off-topic. I just needed to reply.
For the dev tests, it's fine for people to do them where they'd like.
That's fair.
And I don't see Zach online, so I'll update the file version, if you update the post.
And lets not forget that you submitted GnuCash Portable to Lifehacker, possible the GnuCash website, and other places. So it's only natural it has a lot of downloads.
Actually I did no promotion of GnuCash Portable at all. Lifehacker picked up on it all on their own because it was on sourceforge. Now I'm not saying they would do the same for an app buried in the Dev Test section of the PortableApp project, but just correcting a misconception.

Sorry about that. I thought they mentioned you somewhere in there, and from reading a while back assumed you submitted it. Or maybe it was only that you commented on it.
Thanks for the quick update, Zach.
The update over a previous installation seems to be working fine.
One small thing, we're not removing the version number from the top of Other\Source\Readme.txt.
Ok, I removed the version number, and updated the topic to be a Pre-Release

I uploaded the new Pre-Release file to the Pre-Releases section on SF (and hid the Dev Test version):

Barring any objections or issues uncovered, I'll post it as final on Monday.

I can't find any obvious problems with it on vista ultimate.
look forward to the official release
