Just

choose an option and it will show the other window... at least it did it for me...

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report Biggrin

normal GUI with InfraRecorderPortable.INI

Hello Logan,
you can specify it in the InfraRecorderPortable.INI if Infrarecorder or irExpress should Start up
Just Copy the InfraRecorderPortable.INI in the source Dir in the Dir where the launcher is and change the line "InfraRecorderExecutable=irExpress.exe" to "InfraRecorderExecutable=InfraRecorder.exe"
I have tried it and it works fine, Infrarekorder starts up directly - no problems found.

[InfraRecorderPortable]
InfraRecorderDirectory=App\InfraRecorder
SettingsDirectory=Data\settings
InfraRecorderExecutable=InfraRecorder.exe
AdditionalParameters=
DisableSplashScreen=false

Edit: I hope it is the right way, and there will be no conflicts with the launcher - try it out for yourself - maybe John or Travis will give a statement if it is right like i figured it out - or how it must be done right,...

that's right

yeah, that's the way to do it if you want it to always start with infrarecorder.exe or if you only need it to do that occasionally, you can just select something like data cd and then pick that you want to burn an image. i'm not sure if doing it without the express menu will fix your problem or not though. let us know.

Ah thanks. Somehow I was unable to burn the ISO from the quicklaunch, so choosing the create data cd and then open the iso worked. I'm unsure what caused the mishap, but maybe it was still trying to detect the drive or something Smile

GUI, language, usability

Hi!

First of all a big thank you for doing this _GREAT_ job. It's fantastic to know wherewere have to go, whatever policies there are, (if unfortunately not a Linux, despite) a window-pc is what man have to use, there's a Jolly-joker app. Yours.

But I have to ask something: can you include an option in the PA's Options-menu not only Install, Remove, Refresh & Get more, but Configure (Main)Menu. It's not easy to copy xml files in deep hierarchical structure, to not to starting eg. Infrarecorder in wizard style. It will be good in other cases -> although 7zip is mentioned runs in enlish lang-setting, in my case [Hungarian lang & local setting, legal XP Home Sp2+every updates] it has started in Norvegian. You can imagine how hard was to find the right menu to change this. I think it is more needed than small/large text.
Or at least in IR's case it will be good to see two menu-items: Sart IR/ Start IR Wizard. My opinion is that not the right was choosen at default.
[And lastly some helpful style advice: all progs runs from menu are already portable apps. So if they are mentioned in menu as "xy portable" is a repetition. I mention it only if the case too long text doesn't fit inside PA-Menu -> Sart IR Usable Mode / Start IR in Wizard Mode.
+1: black, dark-blue menu color to choose Wink
+2: "right mouse menu"/local menu in explorer to run eg. CD-writer, md5-checksum play multimedia, filecompressor, edit text with a portable-app...]

Thank you for reading, sorry for my english. Keep up the good work!
Greetings from Europe, Hungary.
Thanks again for your work!

i think I have found the issue that caussed this problem

I the DefaultData Dir is the settings.xml with all the default data, which is loaded if no settings file exists....
In this settings.xml is the Language Tag left empty - so InfraRekorder uses the default language in its Code, that is english or accidently choose a file by it's own, like it is happened here.
so my suggestion to ravis is: can you fix it with the next update that the english language file english.irp is choosen in the default settings? So it would starts for all users in english, till they change it and such an accident Wink cannot happen again Smile

Nope

We support multiple languages. And 99.99% of the time, people are using a Windows PC that is in their language of choice, so letting the app decide for itself is the right decision. This is the standard for all apps here and will continue to be.

The next platform release will get the language setting from the PortableApps.com Menu as well, which will make it easier to switch languages in many apps and will keep it all consistent even for folks using a PC that's not in their preferred language.

was only an idea,...

it was only an idea, because for me it started in english too and the language Note on the PA-InfraRekorder page let me think, that it will start for ALL Users in english...
Or was the language tag in the default settings.xml left empty in preparation for the new plattform that will help the app to choose the language? Then i have nothing said, and forget my suggestion Wink

Actually, sometimes users

Actually, sometimes users have no choice on the language of the OS (example, a guest PC is some other country or just some native language windows while you want English apps).

So let the installer decide might not in all cases be preferable. Even if it's only the 1% Smile

The horror of using a non English Windows Biggrin

.01%

It's more like .01. And we're balancing those very few against a larger percentage that would, say, have difficulty changing the language from English to something else. Following an English installer is one thing (installers are basically click next and pick your directory... I've used Japanese ones before) but, as the case was made here, trying to change an app from a language other than your native tongue to your native tongue is much harder as each app has the language selection in an entirely different place. And, just by sheer numbers, there are very very few people using a Windows box in a language they don't understand (note, we're not saying in a language other than their prefered... we're saying in a language they can't read) and far more using a Windows box they do understand who don't really read English well enough to change an app's language. It was a simple numbers decision. And it stands.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

I understand. It's just that

I understand. It's just that I live in Holland and I would be very annoyed with software in Dutch language, just because the crazy translations I've seen in the past. I have imported English software just because some applications they sell only in Dutch language here. To me, computers are English based.

But I understand the reason. One think I wonder is does the installer offer manual language selection to the software would be installed into the user's preferred language or does it always need to be switched in the application itself, for every application until the universal language switcher materializes?

Last point I wanna make, I think 99% of all computer users outside the US do know English nowadays. Heck, even 6 year olds can communicate in English Smile

I just can imagine someone in Japan, who only knows English, would have a problem to change the 'default' language if he would install PortableApps on a Japanese system. You know, people who travel for business or something..

So I look forward to an universal language selector in the menu Smile

Cheers.
