Application: Falling Block Game
Category: Games
Description: Falling Block Game is an awesome 3D style Tetris reimplementation I decided to do instead of QTetris. It features themes, great graphics, and some the good old Tetris music that sounds like it's been tossed in a blender with some Jewish and Polka music. It's good times, really. I mean, really, with a name that creative, how could it not be fun?

Do you think I should copy the themes to the data folder or no? Lets take a vote.
works great. i just wish i could rotate the blocks with the up arrow not the comma and period keys. BTW i don't think should keep the themes in the data folder. there aren't any other themes to download or anything, there's no need to move the themes. i think the Data folder should just contain any user altered settings or data.
Yea, my thoughts exactly. I was thinking if there was other themes to download, users would want to have them backed up. But I couldn't find any either, so I see no reason.
Yea, looks like development just kinda stopped. It's an awesome program, and could have used a few more features.
nothing obvious left behind
the only "problem" is that I forgot how addicting tetris style games were until I started playing it
And with that Jewish/Polka style Tetris music, it doesn't get any better.
It won't launch for me. "fbglaunch.exe has stopped working". Vista Home Premium. Will do further testing later.

Works on Vista for millarp.
Vista Home Premium x64... it doesn't work...
If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report
I believe I've found a solution:
Throw Vista machine in garbage.
Burn garbage.
Buy XP.
Run Falling Block Game Portable.
Let me know if it works.
When running
throw(new VistaMachine)
, the code refuses to run. It always tells me that: "An illegal operation occurred". Could it be that it's actually Microsoft's computer, so I can't legally throw it away?"If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate."
maybe, you could tell it, no, an illegal operation is to take a baseball bat to you?

I actually had the same problem at first. But I re-downloaded it and did a fresh install onto my thumb drive (by deleting the initial install) then it worked. So I just assumed it was a bad download.
edit: and now it's not working for me again...it's doing the same thing that's happing with you.
Same thing here, Vista Home Premium too. Will test on Ultimate later.
If anyone could pick up this app and continue developing it, I think it would be very nice. Someone could take suggestions from us and implement them into the program. I'd like to see the ability to rotate blocks by using the up arrow, and also perhaps some different music. More themes could be developed by anyone who knows a little programming, just get your hands on the Source Code.
Failure is not an option. It comes bundled with Windows.
I freaking love this music!
Now who around here actually knows how to program? Oooh, I know someone!
"If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate."
I'll take that is my call! It's another SDL game, I will have a look later to see if I can't just make some improvements.
EDIT: It also crashes for me on Vista SP1.
EDIT 2: It runs if you execute the base app with admin privileges.
EDIT 3: No it doesn't it just looks like it does!
game keep the music i love it another five thumbs up
if you don't know-ee you should ASCII
I got a few q's
I couldn't find anything wrong :).

i'm going to make a PortableApps.com theme for it since i just figured out how to. is there anywhere to get good PA graphics files to use?
Edit: also what is the PA font? The devs need access to all this stuff.
Agreed.

It's Meta Bold LF Roman, a commercial font. Costs at least a hundred dollars for a license.
ummm.....i thought it was like $35 or $40 US
Edit: nevermind, cheapest I've found is $62 US

if John has a license for the font, is that just for him or for PortableApps.com? and also where can i get the graphics and logos?
The logo is a copyrighted image, unless you mean icons for the programs and stuff. And I think the font is just for him. If it were for PortableApps.com, there would be security/distribution issues because some of the developers may try to share the font with ppl not licensed to use it.
The developer formerly known as ZGitRDun8705
yes the logos are copyrighted to pa.com but what do you think i'm trying to use them for? yes the PA.com apps so there's no problem with using them. i guess i couldn't use the font if it's licensed to John, but if it's licensed to PA there's no problem. I just need some material to make themes for apps with that's higher res than the optimized images on the website!!!
Ask John, they're his copyrights, he has the font, the logos, etc.
Id say ask him in forum or give him an e-mail and ask if you can use the logo, and if he can possible write whatever you need in the font for you.
If someone has a credit card they can use, it's a 5 user license. We can split it 5 ways

Hey, Patrick, I have Vista Home Premium, and I think I've fixed the problem. When I first launched Falling Block Game, it came up with the errors already mentioned. Then I ran it as an administrator, with no problems. I think that should fix it for most people. So, if this fixes it, the game in essence isn't entirely portable on Vista.
Otherwise, I've seen no problems.

I can't remember where I saw it but I could have sworn I came across an app that let you right-click any program and select an option that says "Run as..." with a list o each user on that computer, including the admin account. It would let me run setup files as an admin while still being on my user account. No need to log out or anything. But idk where I saw it at, no idea what it's called.
Failure is not an option. It comes bundled with Windows.
This is on Windows Vista, in which when you right click on an executable, an option to "Run as administrator." You don't need a program for this on Vista. On XP, this problem doesn't exist.

Alright, thanks for catching that.
i've never used it but there is a UAC plugin for Vista problems of that nature http://nsis.sourceforge.net/UAC_plug-in
I'm not sure how I managed to get the program working the first time on my pc (running Vista Ultimate SP1), but I've tried again now that I'm home from work and it's doing the same thing that's happening to everybody else.
I've tried "run as administrator" and it still gave me those errors.
Reinstalling had no effect.
I even went as for as trying compatibility mode with windows xp sp2 and that didn't work either.
Here's some of my specs (the ones that I think are relevant):
Vista Ultimate SP1
P4 2.4ghz
2GB ram
BFG Geforce 7300gt
usb 2.0
AVG Free edition antivirus
hmmm I thought it was 3D. I was hoping someone could do something with Blockout or something like 3dtris, which really is 3D.

Yea but there is an app out there for Windows XP that allows you to add that function. I use Windows XP, haven't switched to Vista quite yet. I need to do a few more upgrades to my computer.

I said '3D style', meaning thinks like the blocks and stuff are 3D.
yer honour.

I think that now that we have a 3d tetris clone, we definitively need a 2d one too.
The author revived this project and is working on a complete rewrite. The current version is 0.3. I think we should wait a bit till its out of alpha stage and then start packaging it as a portable package again.

Yes, Tetris is a staple, there must be a hundreds of open source clones out there to choose from!
