ReactOS

just out of curiousity, is anyone here interested in a PA.com build of reactOS? because, if i understand correctly, most apps here run on wine and reactOS devs work with the wine devs to create support for windows apps.

Eventually

There's no point in trying to modify them on ReactOS until the final release it out, or it at least goes into a more mature development stage.

But ReactOS rocks.

not so much modify them, but

not so much modify them, but just make a live-cd distro that has some portable apps installed on it. or maybe something implemented like DSL embedded.
EDIT: did some more searches and found this:

scroll down and look for a post by "reacter". official USB portable apps OS, anyone?
EDIT 2: on the download page there is also a ready to go qemu package.

Oh Yeah

I remember seeing that a while back. Maybe once we get our fully open source QEMU, ReactOS will be in beta, and we can post it as a package for download.

I don't think so

ReactOS has been in Alpha for YEARS. In fact, I think there was a long time before any more development was done on it. In my opinion, yeah, it's a great product (for an alpha release), but moving VERRRRRRYYYYYY slow.

Lol

Well by the time QEMU gets released here, ReactOS is bound to at least be out of Alpha.

i was thinking about this

i was thinking about this too. it's a great project with small size and low resource requirements, but i've used it before and it's pretty buggy, hence the alpha stage. Even with that said, i think it should be included as a download on portableapps. It runs a ton better from qemu than it does otherwise. i don't think having it loaded with portableapps make much since though because the point of a portable virtual machine would be that you could take full non portable apps with you everywhere.

May I interject...

But some people don't need portable apps per say but a portable operating system. And it is possible to have apps as well, I used to run "Portable" Slax but with my my Windows Portable Apps when I needed to something inside windows and an emulator couldn't cut it.

while we are on the subject

while we are on the subject of qemu, does anyone know how to access a usb drive from the guest os? as after all, you could write up something in OpenOffice in reactos, copy it to the thumb drive and then just print it off.
