Error message in red showing up

When I load Portable Thunderbird version 2.0.0.12 (20080213) I alway get the following message in red at the bottom of the display:

<menu id="offlineMenuItem" insertafter="trashMenuSeparator" label="&offlineMenu.label ;" accesskey="&offlineMenu.accesskey;">----^

I had to type the error message because it is diplaying sat the bottom of the screen and I cannot copy paste the message.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Search Your Error

It's always easiest to search your error. I know there's a solution, but I don't know which one. Search your error on this forum, and you should find a solution.

I'll keep looking to see if I find it.

Edit: Here we are, I believe this may be your solution.

Edit 2: Here's an even better guide of what to do.

This fix does not work fully on 2.0.0.12

The error was present in TBird 2.0.0.9 and closing the application, deleting the specified file (E:\PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable\App\thunderbird\chrome\offline.manifest) does not work properly in 2.0.0.12.

I've renamed the file by adding .old to it and the fix works properly during that session and offline.manifest is not added during the session.

I move my 80GB portable drive between my office and home PCs (XP Pro fully patched). Each time I relaunch Portable Apps and TBird 2.0.0.12 the error message reappears, as does offline.manifest (offline.manifest.old) is also present so I close TBird, delete the .old file and rename the new version to .old. TBird then works just fine.

Clearly there is a difference between 2.0.0.9 and 2.0.0.12 that prevents the fix that works perfectly on the older version working equally perfectly when using ProtableApps in a portable manner.

And then there's Vista - into which I won't even plug my portable drive!

A little more research and wierd results.

I've taken my investigation of this a little further with some surprising results.

offline.manifest (and all .old, .old1, etc) files in the chrome folder are showing a date modified in Windows Explorer of 15/09/2006 (dd/mm/yyyy)at 03:36 once offline.manifest is recreated. Note that the date and time shown here is correct and not a typo.

The date created for each file is 02/04/2008 (dd/mm/yyyy) at 20:05:35. I know with absolute certainty that I was nowhere near my PC at that time - I have an alibi - UK readers will know that on "Dave" (Sky channel 111) Dragon's Den had just finished and Top Gear was just starting.

It's certainly interesting that any file with the name "offline.manifest" in the chrome folder is being modified by the application so far as I can see. Hmmmmmmm.
