Local profile transfer unsuccessful

If this is posted elsewhere I apologize, I was unable to find a solution. Transferring my local profile into Portable Firefox has never worked. At this point I understand there may be incompatible extensions, but ambiguous terms like "except cache directory" may be confusing me. I only see an extension.cache "file." Is there some specific file to file instructions, or possibly a diagram showing the correlating directory tree between local Firefox and the portable version, i.e. some way to match a particular local folder with its replacement portable version so I can copy my working profile? I recently downloaded the U3 version and need to know how to very carefully manipulate the two profiles. Thanks for any help.

Once folder

It's just a single folder on every device (local, standard PFF and FF for U3 - my version). The locations are explicitly stated. The cache directory issue applied more to pre1.5 ff. There isn't really anything else to tell you. You've got all the information you need.

I'm still trying. I seem to have successfully transferred half my profile, extensions are not configured, neither are my themes. I transferred several things from my profile to the portable profile folder, no difference in operation. However, I did find it helpful to do a file by file replacement, leaving the local files that did not have duplicates in the portable profile, which the instructions do not say you need to do. I am using your version of Firefox U3 too. Usercontent file and Userchrome don't end up in the same place either. If anyone knows how to do this backwards and forwards, I'd like to see the step by step instructions. Great program, thanks.

Once again: EVERYTHING

Once again, you need to copy everything... the entire profile directory... for it all to work right. If you're not doing that, as the instructions clearly state, I can't assist you further.

Sorry to frustrate

That's my conundrum, copying and replacing the whole folder doesn't work, not even by then going into the broken FF and disabling extensions one by one. There are too many locations in PFF marked "profile."
Would it help to know I have migrated a profile that is not the .default? I modified the .ini file in subsequent FF's to recognize this profile specifically. Everything inside the folder is as it would be if it were the default.
I also noticed nothing placed into the PFF app data folder in documents had any effect. I had to show hidden files, divide the necessary files between data and exec. That is not stated in the instructions. (Admittedly different from standard PFF, but the same problem exists if only in a different directory tree.)
Sorry to frustrate you, I had hoped posting would get a few end users to share their insights into actually making it work. If anyone out there can tell me how they did it, I'd appreciate it.

Wait wait...

We're talking about Portable Firefox here.... NOT Firefox for U3. That's a completely seperate product. If you have a question about FF for U3, please post that in the U3 apps forum.

Now, if we're talking about Portable Firefox... there is ONE folder for your profile. PortableFirefox\Data\profile. That's it. Nowhere else. Copy your entire local profile (that works in standard FF 1.5.0.3) from "Documents and Settings\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.???" and copy that to PortableFirefox\Data\profile within Portable Firefox 1.5.0.3. That should work just fine. Only in very rare cases will that fail... and it's always due to some very odd-ball extensions... and if it does fail, you're on your own.
