Donating money

Hello all. Well I have been lurking around now for about a month downloading and using the software and i have to say that I am super excited about this portable movement. Since installing the PA software I have created a few backgrounds for my menu and love that everything is open source. If I where to donate money to PA, where would it go to? Are there any benefits to donating money. Would I have an super cool status?

ps. I am on a daily watch for PAM 1.5 alpha.

Hosting

I'm not John, so I can't say for sure, but I'd say it goes to hosting.

And that makes me thing, maybe like a list of donors would help improve donations. But why would you want a super cool status? It's out of the goodness of your heart you donate after John and some of us spend out time and in John's case money to provide these apps for you. Smile

So the benefit it, you'll help support this site.

I belong to a well organized

I belong to a well organized online gaming community in which people donate to keep the server and website fees up. Those who donate receive a special status that shows they donate. Basically people who donate get benefits. You mentioned wanting to improve donations. What about allowing those who donate to receive updates or beta releases before everyone? You are correct in stating that donating is out of the kindness of our hearts but I think that if there were some sort of benefit or something in return that would increase your donations. Another way would have a "private" forum set up for those who donate and make it an open forum to discuss apps or give ideas for Menu items. Again these are simply ideas I have had and wanted to voice them.

Be looking for my donation.

Won't recommend

I absolutely won't recommend special benefits sort of things to only people who donate. The crux is lost then! Be open and Be free - This should be The Mantra. Since things are provided for free, people are feeling to donate. Once, you start charging (even though for beta releases or any such), people tend to move away from this spread.

Just my thoughts.

[Philosophical] If you feel like donating, donate it. Don't expect anything in return. If you are expecting anything, then you are not donating, you are basically purchasing.

Yeah!

Wikipedia - Donations are gifts given without return consideration. This lack of return consideration means that, in common law, an agreement to make a donation is an "imperfect contract void for want of consideration."
basically saying that you are giving but not wanting or getting anything back (besides perhaps feeling good because you were nice to someone Smile ).
