Sc1 simple text editor

Sc1 - a upx compressed single executable file based on the Scite code on sourceforge. http://scintilla.sourceforge.net/SciTEDownload.html. It provides syntax highlighting for about 16 languages (including xml, html, c/c++, c#, java, javascript, vb, vbscript, shell, sql, ruby, python, php, perl) and can be configured to compile & run . Its only about 500k too.

Not Quite

I actually recommended that the SciTE Portable be based around sc1 as it would alleviate the upgrade issues that SciTE will cause (with its dozens of property files that may or may not be updated).

Yes and No

I actually said this right in the SciTE Portable thread about using Sc1 to alleviate the upgrade issue (otherwise it is very complicated). And don't forget, I'm the one who originally did SciTE Portable. Blum I just don't want any more than SciTE and Notepad++ unless one adds something truly unique.

sorry for this discussion,

sorry for this discussion, but who maintained scite portable after your first version 1.70 for nearly 1 year and made the whole redesign for the new paf format?

get over it already... John

get over it already... John never said your package was a bad idea, he said he didnt see much point now that Notepad++ had overtaken scite in terms of features. But he also suggested switching to this Sc1 build because it was standalone and didn't have the issues with the config file.

Delete?

Why would you delete a thread like that? Even if it didn't become official you still could have developed it for the folks who preferred SciTE over Notepad++. I specifically remember typing in a comment explaining the issues with upgrades and the .properties files. Unlike Notepad++ which has them compiled in, SciTE has them separate and allows you to edit them. The problem is they get updated. But what if the user also altered it. (And no, asking the user on each install isn't an option). So, I'd suggested using the prebuilt sc1 which bundles them in. Renaming it to scite.exe of course. Users who want to customize a given language can still create their own properties files, too. And, it won't impact upgrades as just the EXE is upgraded, not the properties files a user creates. I think that was the last comment I'd made in the thread and no one replied to it for a while.
