To act as an external drive you can run programs off of... or literally to act as more RAM for your PC? If the former, then yes... depending on your MP3 player. Many players like iPods, iRivers, etc support working as Mass Storage Devices while others like Creatives do not. Lots of people run the portable apps off of iPods.

you can set ure mp3 player to act as virtual memory but its no replacement to actual ram

to do this right click my computer go to properties->advanced->performance->settings->advanced-> then go to the dialog box that says change
now u should see all visauble drives including ure mp3 click its drive letter then click set and set the amount of space you want to act as memory this then creates a pagefile.sys in the root folder of ure mp3 player (its hidden as a system file just as is the one in ure primary drive for ure home pc)im assuming there is nothing in your mp3 player.

but this is no replacement to actual ram, Windows uses pagefile as if were memory to see a visaul representation of this at youre home pc press ctrl+alt+del go to processes click view then select columns check off virtual memory size(and whatever else u want) now assuming that you only added virtual memory size, to the included things suchs as user name and mem usage, you will notice that proccesses such as explorer.exe have about 13,000k in mem usage and about another 13,000kb in vm size now open any windows notice "mem usage" go up, now minimize it (I did recycle bin) notice "mem usage" decrease and vm size increase. See! but this pagefile is located in ure hardrive so this mean that windows not only has to load an object into memory i might also place a part of it into virtual memory that is located on ure hardrive (this isnt bad windows depends on virtual memory) but becoming dependent virtual memory does nothing excpect increase the ware and tare on the drive your using. Windows is set to create a pagfile that is 1.5 times bigger then actual memory, I recommand useing a system managed size.
