I think, you must encrypt all password stored in accounts.xml

That would be Gaim

Gaim itself stores the passwords like that. For security, I recommend encrypting your drive with TrueCrypt.

Maybe it would better to have an encryption system of the passwords into Gaim itself. I have many datas on my external hard drive, and I don't want to encrypt my whole hard drive. Many softwares are able to store their own datas encrypted, why not Gaim ?

Gaim has an active user and development community. You can request it. I may be building it into the launcher, too.

That would be really great. Nevertheless, I'm a little surprised that the encryption of the passwords in the XML file had not been included into Gaim since the beginning.
