yes another when is it coming out

When is PortableApps.com Platform 1.5 going to be released. I have heard no official word except "next week". From what I hear John is a busy man......if he is so busy then why not allow the platform team take it over. The latest update was last month and he said he needed to put some finishing touches on it. Where is at?

Obviously you know better or you wouldn't have phrased it the way you did.

.

there's nothing wrong with asking. i'm kinda wondering about the lack of updates also. things are sitting in pre-release for weeks and other than the first 5, then gnucash, there are no new Dev apps being released when there are soooooo many. Maybe there should some other trusted people on this site who John could let release people's apps, write specs, etc.

Yea

And he makes a good point:

if he is so busy then why not allow the platform team take it over.

I know there may be some limitations to that, but it's not a bad idea. It's not very idealistic for John to handle everything he hopes to. Getting the menu off his chest would be fantastic. If I wrote the menu, I know I wouldn't want to give it up either, but it's better for everyone, really.

Strange idea

Why not you be his secretary, since you have so much time to find what can be done with other people's timeses. But I don't think you'd like the idea.

And the Word of the Day is...

Va·por·ware
–noun
Computer Slang. a product, esp. software, that is promoted or marketed while it is still in development and that may never be produced.

/vay'pr-weir/ n. Products announced far in advance of any release (which may or may not actually take place). See also brochureware.

JTH is the owner of this

JTH is the owner of this project. He gives something for free. You may use it or not. It`s ok that no one can force him to do anything.

If you wish a platform with a more democratic design and faster development and release times then why don`t just go ahead and create such a platform?

I am sure you could headhunt lots of developers and users from here who are unhappy with the policy here.

Maybe an association? Or a non-profit organization like mozilla?

The guy from portools.com did already try this. And it seams he recognized that maintaining such a project is harder then you may think. (I reasoned this because the latest news if from last years.)

Lol

Yea, I believe it was John T. Haller. Wink

Again, my humble apologies and, if we even start to go down this road again after fixing it this time, please harass me as soon as you notice it.

I don't know what road we're going down w/out an update from John on this one.

It's a bummer...

It's a bummer that all of the mods of the PA menu seen to have stopped at about the same time that that everyone is expecting a new release of PA. Not rushing JTH, he will get it done when he is ready, but another progress/status report about the menu might be nice... I am sure everyone appreciates all of the time he puts into this. Smile

you mean something like

you mean something like this?

And the reason development on the mods stopped is because John asked them to come on board and help him improve the official menu.

Yeah, I just saw it

Ok, so I am a little late... It is good to hear something. Maybe the "April 16" should have come with a sound effect - like my head smacking into my monitor to get my attention. My apologies.

No worries. We're all

No worries. We're all waiting for "next week". For the long time members its an ongoing joke because the new menu has been "next week" for almost a year and a half now. Though this time it actually looks like something will come of it.

Odd-one-out

I know, I am the odd-one-out here, but just to make some space for you all, lets hope something about the new menu by May 1st, this year!

Yup

Either will do. I've been in need of a 3D printer recently.
