Sunbird: Request to remove \uninstall dir

The following directory contains an uninstaller ("mangler" is more like it) that removes some of the Sunbird app, but leaves a mess behind. Could we possibly get this removed from future releases as it's not needed?

Nope

The uninstall directory for all the Mozilla apps is required by license and is necessary for the partial updates by the updater to work (if they are missing, it must run a full update, which adds them back in anyway). Like everything else in the App directory of a portable app, it is not meant to be touched by end users so no one should ever be browsing in there and running random EXEs (and if they do, they're gonna get into trouble no matter what anyway). Though the Mozilla updater has issues in the current releases, it will be fixed in later ones and again working properly with portable apps.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

OK, makes sense

Thanks for the explanation. I should have known it was a "license thing".

I never understood why

I never understood why Mozilla allows you to publish a portable version of their apps yet restricts some changes to fix some issues that would make a perfect portable version. (Untill they sorted out those problems on their end). It's almost like they don't realize some of the issues and it kinda reflects bad on them.

I'm sure you tried to explain those issues to the proper Mozilla developers though.

BTW, isnt there away around the Updater changing the registry by the launcher handling the registry as well like you do with many other apps?
