internet connection selection

Hi, i currently can work with two internet connections: one via LAN and one via WiFi. I would like Firefox to work with the WiFi one without being constrained to disconnect the intranet cable in order to make it choose for that one. Thanks

That is up to the operating system.

In general, an application has no control over what network connection will be used for anything that it does.

All it can do is specify the destination that it is trying to talk to, and then pass ALL responsibility for how it gets there, including which network interface to use, to the operating system (windows).

Windows then uses something called a routing table to work out which ways it could send the packet, and something called the metric for each one which tells it which one to prefer.

All of this is system wide though, so you couldn't have one application using one network port, and another application using the other.

If you can tell us more specifically what you are trying to achieve and why, then there may be some way of getting a similar effect, though.

Proxy

Usually, an Internet connection via LAN at work (since your using intranet, I'm assuming that's the case), uses a proxy and the WiFi, don't.
Try to disable the proxy on the Firefox and let me know if this works.

internet connections

Hi, if disable the proxy on Firefox means getting into the Advanced-Network tab of Options and choose "Direct connection to the internet" from the Settings form, it doesn't work. I mean, on Microsoft IE isn't possible to choose which connection to use? Thanks

Yes, this was what I mean...

IE uses Windows Internet settings, so you can select between dial up connections, but not between different LAN connections.
A coworker of mine uses IE to access the intranet and FF to access a WiFi connection someone left wide open and he does this simply by disabling the proxy on FF. I took a peek at his settings and found nothing different.
Since this didn't work for you, you can use a third party software to change between TCP/IP settings. I don't have access to freeware download sites, here at work, but I'm sure you can google for it.
Here are some commercial programs:

NetSwitcher

Easy Net Switch

Mobile Net Switch
