unfortunately, Trillian is not open source, so it would not currently be a suitable project to host here. (check https://portableapps.com/node/4507 for the requirements)
However, if you search for trillian, you'll find that several people have already done work on a "launcher" version, that may do what you require.
Finally, though, I would recommend that you use Miranda instead, since I've found it to be far more reliable in operation, based on my experience for over a year as a paid user of Trillian Pro, getting increasingly annoyed with it's "creative" handling of things such as offline messages and invites, before I finally gave up on the one I'd spent money on, and moved to the free one instead.
redistributing Trillian? that's illegal and this post should be edited and closed...

3. Yes, I downloaded it and checked it, it is so Trillian that even have the original Trillian License inside... it is complete Trillian without the uninstall.exe in a zip file.

it is NOT legal. Cerulean Studios most likely did not give you permission to redistribute their application. Redistribution without consent of the copyright owner is illegal.
Yeah, they gave U3 permission. You do not have permission explicitly from Cerulean Studios. Also, it is quite different than what we do with the other programs here. The other apps are all open-source and can be freely redistributed, even with modification. The one exception is the Mozilla apps, and that is only because their logos and names are trademarked, the source is still freely available, and anyone can distribute it, but if they make changes, they are required to remove all Mozilla branding. Repackaging in PAF format is a modification, but John has special permission from Mozilla to keep their branding in it.
While it is free, it looks like Cerulean studios (the company that makes Trillian) has specific requirements about about how their program can be distributed.
2. Distribution Permitted. You may make copies of your copy of Trillian™ Basic to give to others provided that such copies are not modified from the original downloaded copy of Trillian™ Basic. You may not charge a fee for distributing copies of Trillian™ Basic except that freeware distribution companies may charge their normal shipping and handling fees not to exceed $5.00 U.S. per copy. If a copy of Trillian™ Basic is distributed, Cerulean requests that you send Cerulean an e-mail addressed to info@ceruleanstudios.com notifying Cerulean of such distribution and the identity of the person or entity receiving the copy of Trillian™ Basic.
I think the concern that people are having (and please correct me if I've mis-understood) is that the version you linked to would probably be considered as modified from it's original version (in this case the U3 version) which breaks the EULA agreement and make it an illegal copy
This is not Open Source and this site is for Open Source Apps...
The forum post is plenty of comments from other users not from the owners of this program.
The distribution of a modified version and the link is illegal.
According to that post, there is somebody (Drashna) with a permission.. that somebody is not you and is not PortableApps.com and is not John T. Haller and is not Sourceforge who is hosting this website for open source only apps...

us thinking won't change this site's policies, or get Cerulean Studios to give us permission to redistribute a modified version. I agree that Trillian is a great app, but this site already offers Pidgin and Miranda which both have very similar features and are open-source.
And Brando212, you have been here for more than a year, it is supposed that you already know the rules... which are not precisely a "who cares"... If I make a portable Windows XP I can guaranty that many people are going to use it, but that doesn't make it legal...

If you want to have Trillian Portable so badly why don't you just make one for yourself or request just a launcher? I did it for mIRC until Patience did a better launcher...
And consider that you can request a launcher but you can't force programmers here to do it if they don't want it... I have years waiting for a launcher for TeamSpeak...

Of course, that's what I mean by John needs to make a decision. If he says it's fine you can put the link back and I will respectfully apologize for removing it.
Let's see what John as to say.

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?
I think if someone got official go ahead from the official developers / business it would be ok to make a portable version, but you need Johns permission to use John's launcher / installer / images.
I seriously doubt this will be approved. Everyone seems to forget that this site is for Open Source apps. Trillian is not open source, so I highly doubt this will be allowed.
Thats besides the point. The 'support' for freeware apps concerns official releases and hosting by PortableApps. In that light I doubt he will get Johns permission. But that doesn't mean he could not get permission from the developers to make an portable version and host it somewhere else.

Are you verifying that the .zip contains Trillian itself illegally?

I removed the link then. If there's any problem, I still have it.

Na na na, come on!
it is completely legal
it is just the basic version extracted from the free U3 version

it's no different than what you do with any other of the programs here.

I notice you been here around for a while so I'm sure you understand the difference between GPL-ed software and non open source software.
If they didn't want it reproduced, on a flash-drive, ect. they wouldn't make a version for U3.
you get what i'm saying?

The key word here is "THEY"
"They" made a U3 version.

I'm in the process of working it out with Cerulean on their forums
I'll check back when I have and news of my progress.

Given the nature of the thread do you think you could provide a little bit of supporting information.
e.g.,
who you talked to and what they said?
a link to the forum discussion?
something?
Thanks is advance,

other people have done it
what more do you need
the only reason I'm asking you for this is because I linke the way you compile the programs.
I can garentee you that if you do this people will use it and it will make many people happy.

Cerulean Studios gives permission to redistribute an UNmodified Trillian Basic. By repackaging it, it is a modification, which makes this illegal.
And currently this site only supports open source software. This has been stated many times in the past.

just go on the forum and ask

Trillian Basic is ok to distribute.
