Hi, I just downloaded the latest version of ClamWin but I can't seem to update the virus database. Below is the message that I got when I tried to update. Can anyone help me?

Looks like your network is down. Or a proxy/firewall/something else is preventing your ClamWin from accessing the internet.
Where are you trying it from? Are you sitting at work behind a firewall?
Try to disable it for 5 minutes and retry the Update.
These are the most common things to try.

I think the ClamAV servers themselves have been having problems for the past few days.
I have been noticing problems myself.
Sometimes it's taken as much as 5 minutes.

I too noticed that problem. I always had to download the complete daily.cvd after some errors. But today it worked "the old way" so Iguess they fixed whatever it was.

I'm getting that same error. Another thing I noticed is that after updating to 0.93, it didn't detect the presence of any virus database at all... told me I hadn't downloaded one yet. ??
I'm attempting to download from the same location and security settings I've always used (at work) and I know it's not a problem with our network. I cannot get it to work "the old way" or any way at all... so they did not fix whatever it was, apparently.
Oh, wait.... I'm getting errors but not the same as in the OP. Mine look like this:

It's always going to the same IP address... and there is no freshclam.conf file. There's ClamWin.conf in \PortableApps\ClamWinPortable\App\clamwin\bin and in \PortableApps\ClamWinPortable\App\clamwin\bin... but I don't see any alternate download addresses in there.
(Why is there a .zip file in \PortableApps\ClamWinPortable\App\clamwin\lib? Can ClamWin use that? Anyway, there's no freshclam.conf in there either.)

Tim, does your copy have a freshclam.conf file? Yours seems to have been able to poll alternate addresses somehow, and mine doesn't appear to be doing that.

Yep, it's there all right...
Hmmmm... I'm now on my Vista Home Edition laptop at home, and the download is working. Maybe something changed in the meantime, but I'm going to try downloading at work again tomorrow. If that doesn't go, then either something has changed in how ClamWin works or tech services have done something with the firewall or other security software, without telling anyone. That would be bad.

I'm having the same problem today. More annoying, however, that the portableapp download has an old version of clamwin in it, something which PC Advisor who have just been pushing portableapps didn't mention.
The suite/platform has an older version.
It is not updated for every individual app it contains.
The ClamWinPortable page has the latest version of the program.

You will always have to update the database, this is common for all antivirus programs.
