Well I just got a change log e-mail from the Ubuntu team and I noticed that one of the changed items was this:
* Ubuntu can now be installed to USB devices, such as removable hard
drives and flash memory, using the text-mode installer

A few months ago I ended up spending days - literally - trying to get this to work.
My most significant problem? Finding a way to create a "Boot CD" that will allow any host computer to detect and boot to the USB device (regardless of whether USB booting or detection is built into the BIOS!). Why the need? (1) Not all BIOSes can boot from USB - mine among them - and (2) "Portability" means not having to tweak the host computers BIOS in an attempt to re-order the boot setup.
Back then I read that it had been done with many other Linux distros, Damn Small Linux being the best known, but that no easy option existed for Ubuntu yet. Steve, has this been dealt with or does Ubuntu intend to widen its losing gap in the Portable Linux market?
I'd love to have a my own Ubuntu anywhere, anytime, but it doesn't look there has been much effort towards this goal.

I posted earlier asking about the "H2" portable drive. I asked if anyone knew what ubuntu distro was bundled with it. Do you think this is the same distro? [edit - i think i did that at no-install, sorry]]

P.S. This distro still dosen't seem to be listed on the official ubuntu derivatives page.
P.P.S. No ones links seem to work. Most recent available is 5.10 as far as I can see. How big is it?
