Fatal error with Menu

I haven't had much luck searching the forums for my answer, so please forgive me for asking a question which may have been answered... I just can't seem to put the correct string of keywords together.

When I run the Menu and then make any selection from it, the selection starts fine, but I then get the error message "Portableapps Menu has encountered an error and needs to close." I have the option to debug the error or send an error report. Debug does nothing and I am getting tired of constantly having to restart the menu.

My drive is a sandisk cruzer (4Gig) from which I have uninstalled the U3 software...

Any help would be appreciated.

Completely delete your

Completely delete your existing installation of the menu and install the latest beta release. Despite the fact that it is a test release, it is more stable than the current full release, and includes more features.

Did that...

but it came up with nothing. Same error...

Could there be something wrong with my windows explorer that is causing it? I sometimes get a similar error with that when I'm doing anything involving peripherals like my phone, camera and such...

If so, any recommendations on how to address?

so it's more ...

that it's usb port related then hardware/software? Is it a loose internal connection? Have you tried using other usb ports?
If the only good usb port is a far one, you can get one of the 1' or whatever usb extension cords.

I dunno...

The U3 software worked fine without any issues. I switched because most of the software I put on my drive was converted programs from here (and it took up quite a bit more space)... but I never had any issue like this with it.

I'd hate to go back, converting portable apps to U3 isn't difficult but it is an annoying extra step which consumes more space on the drive than I'd like.

Reinstaller / Uninstall

Try reinstalling U3. Update the drive to the latest firmware. Then uninstall it again. The problem with U3 drives is that they are always U3 drives instead of regular flash drives... even if you uninstall U3. And the U3 uninstaller is notoriously flakey... corrupting drives, losing data, etc.

From what I've heard anecdotally, many U3 drives become flakey once U3 is uninstalled... I'm hoping upgrading before uninstalling will help in your case. Unfortunately, it varies heavily on the drive as there are so many different versions of the U3 firmware and software. Some U3 drives will never work with Vista at all. Some drives will be flakey with U3 uninstalled no matter what you do.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
