Problems with PortableOpenOffice 2.0.2

I don't understand what may have happened, I unzipped my just downloaded POO, but when I run it appears like in this image (http://www.imageshosted.com/uploadimages/16685POO_bug.gif): the buttons on the toolbar are invisible, and even labels on menus!
So, by now I can't use it: maybe it has to do with my system language (italian), I don't know, maybe program tries to use italian menu but the software hasn't it... I just have no idea of what the problem is, and what I can do...

A smile to everyone that can help me, or give me a clue!

Thanx,

System Font Issue

It's an issue with your system fonts. Basically, somehow, one of the standard Windows fonts on your system was deleted or became corrupt. I think OO.o uses Tahoma by default, but I'm honestly not sure.

Easy fix... find another copy of Windows (Italian) the same version as yours and copy C:\Windows\fonts from that one to yours.

System Font Issue

Thank, actually this may be the problem (one other application had fonts scrambled up).
I tried to change the fonts but they where used by the system, and I'm not the admin of the pc, so by now I don't know if this could solve the problem.

I'll try something else (i.e. dos, the font thing) when I'll have more time (I don't want to mess it up all), thanx!

Try this hack...

If you need to use Portable OpenOffice.org on that PC on a regular basis, you can get the font on your key. Within your PortableOpenOffice\openoffice\share directory, create a fonts directory. Then, within the fonts directory, create a truetype directory. Within that directory, copy the font you need from a PC with good fonts. I'm pretty sure OOo uses Tahoma, so copy TAHOMA.TTF from C:\Windows\fonts to that directory you created. (In XP, it'll just show as the font names: "Tahoma") Drop a note back if that works.

Same Issue

Hi:

I'm having the same problem. Tried the recommended hacks/fixes to no avail. Anything else to try? Using version 2.o (I believe). Also have v2.1 (not portable version) and it works fine.

Thanks much.

Same Issue

I also have the same problem when trying to start OpenOffice not just one application but all of them. Have tried copying the Font as suggested to no avail, Have installed the complete version onto my PC and this works 100% with no problems with fonts etc. On the startup of OpenOffice portable i get this error message.

OpenOffice.org 2.0

ERROR

Configuration data in
‘file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Macky/My%20Documents/Apps%20Standard/PortableApps/OpenOfficePortable/App/openoffice/share/uno_packages/cache/registry/com.sun.star.comp.deployment.configuration.PackageRegistryBackend/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office/ProtocolHandler.xcu’ is corrupted. Without this data some functions may not operate correctly. Do you want to continue startup of OpenOffice.org without the corrupted configuration data?

Yes or No

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Re: Same Issue

Try a shorter path. I had the same problem using it from my My Documents folder--path was too long. I moved it to c:\thumb and it worked fine. (I use Microsoft's SyncToy to sync c:\thumb to e:\ where the thumb drive is located.)

Fonts hack!

Thanks for that post but i'd like to be clear if i may. I want to 'carry around' one or two fonts which i find useful [currently resident on my desktop c:\windows\fonts directory - one of them is a fixed font. I'm using OO 2.0.2
The directories are:
x:\OpenOfficePortable\App\openoffice\Share\fonts\truetype
currently seems to be one there from initial installation opens___.ttf
I would assume that i could just copy mine and put it in that dir.

I've used this fixed font on my website and laptop in innocence so how has it 'hopped' invisibly!!

Is there a way of just putting one's favourite in a dir on the flash drive like say x:\jf-fonts and somehow getting any application to find them?

grateful for clarification - thanks.

Font and Icon problem.

I had the same problem: no fonts and no icons.

After access 7th hidden menu (Tools), last option (Options) and choosen OK, OOo seems works fine. Maybe was some path problem related with diferent font in Widnows (I use Trebuchet as system font).
