[Outdated] Project64 Portable Launcher Beta2 (Testers Needed) -Updated 10/22/07

This app is outdated. Please see the newer version here.

OK, heres a Project64 Portable launcher. Since Project64 is not OSS, your gonna need to download it and put Project64's guts in the App\project64 folder.

For those of you who don't know what Project64 is, it is basically the best N64 Emulator for Windows (at least from what heard).

Download: https://downloads.sourceforge.net/armogohmasuites/Project64_Portable_1.6...
(May take a few mins to hit all the servers)

Enjoy, for those who wanted the launcher, I say this cause I know a few peeps Wink

Thanks to NeoRame for the icon and splash.

BTW, in the Data folder, I put a roms folder, as the name insists it is a convient place to put your ROMs, since ROMs would be backed up by the App Data option in the Paaps Backup Utility.

Whats new in Beta2:

Launcher now supports the superior NRage Controller Plugin.

To do:

Have the launcher clean up the Registry Entries of the other Project64 Plugins (like the other controller plugins). Since this currently only handles the defaults. (NRage Contoller Plugin Supported, need to check the others)

Have a folder in the Data folder, which will hold saves...
Another folder in the Data folder for screenshots

YEEEP

Although the installer should have it with it, it's really easy to find, so that wasn't a problem XD

Plus

Even if I had permission to include the binary, I would not be able to promote P64 Portable here.

And nocr, I wanna know if the launcher leaves anything behind on your end, I know when the N-Gage Controller Plugin is in use those Reg keys are left behind.

I know.

I think that there should be a launchers section in development. Or, this could be official. XXAMP uses a launcher.

All the apps here use a launcher. We already asked John about adding a Launchers Only table to the Dev Test page, but the page is already huge and adding more content will make it even harder to edit.

Yeah,

But I mean XXAMP has the launcher seperate from the program, similar to this launcher.

I realize this in an old forum but

I thought it would be nice to provide profile support for this as well as a feature (which I've not seen with the regular project 64) that allows for parental controls. See, I allow my siblings to play games with PJ64 but, in order to keep there settings separate I have to look up the registry's for it and export, this version will help me be more portable but, it seems it would take away that flexibility. Also since my siblings are young and I don't want them playing Doom and Duke Nukem (and any others of the sort) I have to either place those games in a separate folder or tell them no and hope they listen.

why not just keep those roms

why not just keep those roms on your flash? And then keep the flash on your person?

I already use

an external hard drive for just about everything, portable or not, but, that doesn't make it any easier to make multiple profiles for it. Also keeping multiple flash drives and just keeping the roms on one is way to costly. (it cost one guy $100 for a 16GB Flash Drive, it cost me the same for my 120 GB Portable Hard Drive. -tangent, my drive was expensive but, I put it through hell and it still works perfectly. It's an iomega.)

Truecrypt the roms. If

Truecrypt the roms. If Project64 can't access them, no one can play them.

That's still extra messing around

that could be avoided by simply moving the files, the point was to make profiling easy, as in I just click an accounts tab, click my name, and maybe put a password in. that would also allow for the separation of saves. without having to change settings each and every time or in the non portable version double clicking the reg files.

Some changes

The launcher doesn't seem to update the drive letters like it should. Here's what I did to fix this (this comes from the PidginPortable launcher). StrRep.nsh and RepaceInFile.nsh need to be added from another source (I just pulled them out of the PidginPortable source directory, so I don't know where to get them... GIYF)

!include "FileFunc.nsh"
!insertmacro "GetRoot"
!include "ReplaceInFile.nsh"
!include "StrRep.nsh"

. . .

then, at the RestoreSettings part

RestoreSettings:
${GetRoot} "$EXEDIR" $R2

ReadINIStr $R1 "$SETTINGSDIRECTORY\${NAME}.ini" "${NAME}Settings" "LastDriveLetter"
IfErrors "" +3
ClearErrors
StrCpy $R1 ""

. . .

then, between each of the IfFileExists statements (looking for the .reg files) and the corresponding check for a 9x system

IfFileExists "$SETTINGSDIRECTORY\project64.reg" "" BackupRun

StrCmp $R1 "" +2
${ReplaceInFile} "$SETTINGSDIRECTORY\project64.reg" "$\"$R1\" "$\"$R2\"

IfFileExists "$WINDIR\system32\reg.exe" "" RestoreTheKey9x

(you need 3 of them...)

. . .
and finally

TheEnd:
${registry::Unload}
WriteINIStr "$SETTINGSDIRECTORY\${NAME}.ini" "${NAME}Settings" "LastDriveLetter" $R2

Also, you need to delete $PROGRAMDIRECTORY\Project64.cache before launching right after StartProgramNow:

This is just a cache of the items in the menu if you use the ROM browser, which also contains hard-coded paths. Rather than changing the drive letters it's just easier to delete the whole file because it gets regenerated on launch if it doesn't exist. Good job with this Smile

Uhh, he's not gonna update it...

the guy who made this is gone and hasn't updated this in over a year. Maybe you could take this over and release the new launcher you made? The drive-letter bug has been bugging me for a long time.

I'll see about it

I'll see about it. I've been kind of fixing it up a piece at a time just so I can use it and at the same time altering it for use on U3 (cus that's what I have). I'll try to pull out the U3 stuff and get it back to PAF and see if I can't update this and release.

Here it is

Here it is :). I haven't tested it extensively, but should work fine. Basically, I added the drive change and edited some stuff to fit into PAF, such as the splash screen and such (I wasn't sure, so I used the "test release" splash screen... if that was wrong, I can recompile). Give'er a try.

Download Link Broken

The download link http://downloads.sourceforge.net/armogohmasuites/Project64_Portable_1.6.... takes me to http://sourceforge.net/projects/armogohmasuites/files, with "A 404 Error has Occurred" as the title.

You should either update the original post saying you have made a new page of it (this page reaches #1 on Google for "project 64 portable"), or just add the new download link into this post.

Directly above you

As the comment directly above the one says, there's a newer version here. I don't know if you noticed it, but it's generally considered a good idea to read through all the comments on a post before commenting - often you'll find an answer. I'm not sure if that's what you were meaning or whether you had noted the new version.

I'll lock the thread and mark it as outdated.
