The Drupal 6 compatible versions on both of those linked pages are still in beta, which means that they're not production-ready, and most likely not sutiable for putting on a site that gets this much traffic.
Actually, last I checked they were just SVN snapshot releases (aka pre-alpha). This may be usable as we don't do much with Views and we just need SimpleNews to be compatible enough to handle subscribers right now (the mailing list will probably have to be offloaded to a dedicated mailer due to size). The only other one we really need is the mark read module.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Is that really that important? I would think that having real mods would be more important that allowing people to mark all forums as read.

Yes, it is that important. As much as I'd like to I don't have time to read every forum post that comes in. If I didn't have the ability to mark everything I'm not contributing to as read I would quickly be unable to keep up with the hundreds of posts that come in each day. I would much rather see the occasional unmoderated post!

This is the most important fuctionality in my opinion.
I'm not into Drupal, so I wasn't sure what the little information things meant totally. Thanks!
