Microsoft OneCare Live

Firefox Portable will not connect to the internet if "Microsoft OneCare Live" is installed. As a matter of fact any application (I have only tested Thunderbird) will not connect to the internet. I have even tried to add the file manually to the firewall.
FYI I am using this setup on Vista.
If I turn off the firewall everything works fine. But I can't do that now can I Smile

I know it is no fault of any other application than OneCare but I am just here in case if someone knows the solution. (Apart from not using OneCare)

Firefox

Why is this in the firefox forum if it happens to ANY online app? So, you have NO internet access on a PC with Windows OneCare Live?

Onecare preventing connection

Hi,

I'm having the exact same issue. Nothing will connect to the internet through portable apps when OneCare is turned on. I'm on Vista. Has anyone ever found a solution to this issue?

The log from the firewall says:

The following request was blocked:
Full Application Path: D:0\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\App\Firefox\firefox.exe
Version: Unknown
Local Computer: 0.0.0.0:4294954012
0.0.0.0:0
Protocol Name: TCP
Protocol Number: 6
Traffic Direction: Inbound

get rid of one care

and similar 'solutions' and you have the solution!

clearly, it considers the traffic from stick as inbound , thus blocking it by design.
as software like this do often more harm to the system, make it more complex and thus vulnerable and let the user think he is more safe with that (even he is not) all can cause more harm then without it.

you maybe have to set up

you maybe have to set up \firefoxportable\app\firefox\firefox.exe as \firefoxportable.exe is only a script that keeps open since you click it, launches the \firefoxportable\app\firefox\firefox.exe (& copy all the reg files) & when you close it it cleans the registry

So, the executable that really connects to intenet is on \firefoxportable\app\firefox\firefox.exe
