but John said no. I said it was a good idea because then we can install the app and run it- we don't install portable apps just for the fun of it. But then he countered with the fact that people install multiple apps at a time. Here's basically it: Me: Can we add run support to the PA Installer? I mean we don't install apps just for the fun of it. John: No, because people usually install and download apps in bunches, so they don't usually want to run them. Me: Then we can leave it unchecked by default. John:Didn't answer because he was writing the PAF draft.

I personally don't like it. I do install multiple apps at once. And I normally use them later. digitxp said that people are installing the app because they want to use it, but most people install it on their home PC and then take it elsewhere to use it. Just my opinion.
I found some player that asked to launch. I had to uncheck it as default was checked. Probably the new version will have at least the option unchecked by default
For those people who don't want to take advantage of it it would be the same, for those who want to run the app once it's finished installing it would be one more mouseclick. I really don't see how this could effect others.

waste that time on running the app. It won't affect as if they are using the app after then they would spend time with a mouse click.
For the others, then it's serving the purpose for them: install it fast.
*Edit:* I thought a little and it'll actually save a mouse click, the menu mouseclick.

This will not be supported for the forseeable future. The Platform itself will want to know which apps are running and which aren't and be able to monitor them in a future release, so the installer will not be running them directly (bypassing the platform).
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
maybe a way around that is to add a call in the launcher to register a window message to the platform to tell AppName is running.
Or, we can link to a func and register the window message there after executing.

as well, as depending on my connection, which could vary from 56 dialups, to the t10 line, I may download a bunch and just come back later to install somewhere else, and I don't want to have to comeback to click that "I don't want to install now". It'd be more clicks for me, not less.
I don't really like this idea. First of all, I download apps in bunches and just install them all as upgrades or to try out a beta. I think that this is how most people function. Also, is it really a big fuss to make about two extra clicks?

It won't be wasting clicks because it'll be unchecked by default.
It'll save a click for people that do want to run because they won't have to go in the menu.

It's about the same number of clicks because the menu stays up while you install from the menu anyway.
Either way, it doesn't matter as we won't be adding this in. Within the next couple months, the majority of users won't need to be doing any clicking on most of the installers anyway as they are better integrated into the platform.

As digitxp said, leave it unchecked by default. It quite a few less clicks until John finally get the new platform out.

Well then dont include the option for the installers that have multiple apps in it........ its a great idea.
Na na na, come on!

Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.
If you download a bunch and install sometime else, you don't see it.
And You don't have to click that; it'll be unchecked by default.

It really is not a needed feature. I think the main solution here is just to be able to have the app appear in the menu without resetting the menu.

The majority will, sure. But for those who don't use the platform or use an old version, it would be a nice feature to add.
With regards to the platform wanting to know what is running, just make a mutex.
