PTB- registry setting "Default Mail App"

In the new version of Pthunderbird a registry setting is added at startup and at closing the app. Here at the computers editing the registry can't be done and will result in an error.

Is there a way to turn it off?
(yeah i know i will be asked the default mail application question, but its better than everytime those errors.)

Me too have problem with the registry. My desk pc and laptop are synched with each other and the USB drive. Since PTB are steady on desk pc and laptop I wish to register them permanently as the default mail app. On the USB I appreciate the temporary settings of the registry. Maybe that could be a switch in next release?
