Thanks

Also, John, this should be ready to go as it was only a binary replacement.

Works on WinXP SP2

I just upgraded my copy and it is working, no problems found.
The user interface has changed. For some users my present confusion because the lack of documentation.
But I find it very useful application. Thank you very much Patrick for your work!

GPL 3

I just noticed in the changelog Task Coach is now licensed under the GPL 3. I haven't looked at what's compatible with the GPL 3, but I'll look now. Does anyone know off hand if this will cause any issues?

Shouldn't

We're launching from a separate app and already package other apps that are licensed under GPL3. The installer is GPL2 and later, which makes it compatible.

Yeah, but

You'll have to make sure to include both license files in the package.

Re: Shouldn't

Yes, John is correct to my knowledge. I have read a paper from FSF and there was stated clearly that GPL2 + GPL3 and also upgrade from GPL2 to GPL3 are allowed.
The downgrade is more problematic. For example can not distribute under GPL2 if the software contains other software released under GPL3. So TaskCoach Portable should be GPL2+GPL3 (Launcher+TaskCoach).

yes

I think thats why a lot of people keep their projects GPL2 and dont like GPL3 because they dont want to have problems with GPL3´s difficult downgradability.

Exception

If your code is GPL2 or greater... you could dual license as GPL2/3 or GPL3 with exception to downgrade. It's just if you combine it with GPL3-Only code you couldn't do that anymore.

Testing Later

I'll try this one out a little bit later today - love this app. Makes a really annoying thing like time tracking easy to do. Thanks for the update.

Don't Release

John, please don't release this yet. There's a bug in AppNamePortable.ini, and I think it's more than a quick fix, the INI may be a bit more broken than that. I'll try to fix it tomorrow as I won't have internet tonight.

Thanks.

Updated

Task Coach Portable has been updated to Pre-Release 2 to fix the INI not working. Sorry it took so long, I had some sketchy internet this weekend.

HowTo test fixed ini?

Patrick, thank you for all your hard work!

As I wrote earlier I tested the first pre-release and it worked fine for me from what I could say.

Would you mind to give some help on how I can test your new INI thing?

Thanks

Yeah

Sorry, I should have been more specific. Under TaskCoachPortable\Other\Source, there's a TaskCoachPortable.ini. Copy that file to \TaskCoachPortable, and edit it with like Notepad to set the DisplaySplash line or whatever it's called to false. If the splash doesn't display after saving that file and launching TaskCoachPortable.exe, it should be fine. Thanks very much for testing.

Only Fix

Is that the only fix? If so, are we good to go on this tomorrow?

Yes

That was the only fix. I didn't touch anything else in the code so it should be fine to go tomorrow. One tester would be cool just if we can wait for sebastion. I don't wanna have it go out with some stupid oversight I missed.

I was able to get it working with the disabled splash

I just tried it out now.

Since the only splash related line in the ini file was "DisableSplashScreen=false", I assumed (even though I know what assumptions can lead to) that you wanted it changed to "DisableSplashScreen=true"

When I launched it after that change, the splash never came up and it went right into Task Coach Portable.

For what it's worth, pre-release 2 left nothing obvious behind and works well on vista ultimate SP1

it works, I added

it works,
I added "DisableSplashScreen=true" to TaskCoachPortableSettings.ini -> no splash, it evens seems to start quicker. but that might have to do that I started it before.

thanks for you effort.

Wrong MD5 sum

Hi Patrick,
I just tried to download an test the Pre-Release 2. First time it downloaded, but the MD5 sum was incorrect. The second time it failed to download and I got a warning message from our AV system:

Access to this URL is currently restricted due to a blocking rule.

URL: nascent-project.org/portableapps/pre-releases/Task_Coach_Portable_0.70_PRERELEASE2.paf.exe
Rule: Block URLs of type Virus infected temporary block

If you feel you have reached this message in error, please contact your network administrator

It is TrendMicro IWSA system. It could be a false positive, but you might want to contact TrendMicro to find out why they are marking your program as virus.

Thank you for your hard work,
SAL-e

Hmm

Thanks for trying to test. I'm not in a position to check it out right now as the internet is slow and I'm not on my main PC, but I'll certainly check it out as soon as I get a chance.
